Epistemic status: half a bottle of cheap vodka
I recognize that this is more seriousness than the situation deserves, but I find it significant that Relatable Comic Man did not realize that the Total World Happiness Quotient would have been raised even more if the thief had bought or scavenged a bike.
the keystone here is not “I am willing to take it up the ass for utilitarianism” but “some people who are not willing to take it up the ass for utilitarianism can be allowed to continue being selfish little shits because they are not moral agents, and its the job of us, the Good People, to indulge them”
this is… actually something I’ve been thinking about for a long while.
“cuck” is the wrong metaphor
the correct metaphor is “overindulgent father”
y’know. the overindulgent father, who revels in his children’s entitlement–because their entitlement is a reflection of his power. They want everything because he can afford to give them everything.
A parent interacting with their children as equals is a massive admission of weakness. maintaining a position of power requires occasionally taking it on the chin from your subordinates, because NOT doing that will be perceived as a tantrum on your part. and the kids can throw tantrums but the parents can’t. that’s just how the relationship works.
but that doesn’t change the fact that the parents have absolute power in that relationship.
The image that Relatable Comic Man is trying to project is not “self-sacrificial kindess” but “absolute power, but in a passive-aggressive sort of way”
