Time to Heal by Lycka: All the Sand Siblings attempting to deal with the horrors of their abusive childhood. Gaara, especially, is fragile and shattered, but after losing his most important person, he’s working hard to pull himself back up. Gaa/Na is the main pairing, but there’s also Kiba/Kankoru, Tema/Saku, and SasuNaru. It’s an adorable story, with very human characters dealing with lifetimes of trauma.

Something Wicked by Nomme de_Plume: An Uchiha-centric horror story. Nomme de_Plume is a really talented writer, and this story is no exception. There’s plenty of suspense and vague, creepy atmosphere to enrapture you for days.

Meant to Be, by authorindented ( @narutoandsasukeweregayashell )  Sasuke is a teenage kid who has lost his family, but he’s making an effort to have a happy life. He has two loving mothers, a gorgeous best friend with a mordant wit, and a crush on the only person alive who could possibly be more awkward than Sasuke himself.  In addition, he has some creepy guy calling him leaving cryptic messages about things he would rather forget. This story comes in two parts; Part 2 is underway, and it’s... gah. It’s just such a good story, and it’s so well-written. You should definitely read this.

Bad Bromance, by Medivha: I’m scared to love this fic as much as I do, because it was begun years ago and has just been updated. But, damn the torpedoes; this is SUCH a good story. It features a feminized Naruto, but unlike most stories where Naruto is transformed into Naruko, there’s a lot of intrigue and mystery to this one. Naruto attempting to navigate life in a modern, University AU as a dainty, hot little blonde girl is comedic, but it’s never slapstick, and what does Itachi Uchiha know about this, hmm? It’s well worth the read.

 Problematic Soldier, by Maelstrom_Prince ( @maelstrom-prince ): As a writer, I frankly suck at plot. Maelstrom Prince is a natural at it, though. Imagine Danzou getting hold of the infant 9-tails jinchuuriki and weaponizing him. Now, imagine that he’s taken from the rarefied world of ROOT and placed with a genin team. Imagine that he is tasked with protecting Sasuke Uchiha. Naruto is an interesting, endearing character in this story, as are Sasuke and Sakura.  The latest update has made another intense plot twist, and I can’t wait to read more. Bonus: the author includes art in many of the chapters, and they are just as talented at visual arts as they are at writing.

On his first birthday, he did not receive cake, streamers and soft toys. Startled by the sound of marching, the boy wakes as Uzuki pulls him from the cot. As if sensing her bitter internal conflict, he begins to cry as she hugs him tightly against her sternum. She holds him like he's about to break, treasuring the pitch of his screams against her ear.

This was the sound of self-preservation— the will to live— something she knew was taken from her long ago. She holds the babe in her iron grip and prays he doesn't ever forget the will to scream.

Sasuke has never felt so powerful before. In his short lived, painful existence, never has everything seemed so impossibly easy. Shot up with adrenaline, he gave in willingly to the singing melody in his veins, coaxing him to breathe faster and experimentally flex his fingers, trembling with excitement and power. He could feel his pores open as his skin transforms into a breathable lifeform of its own, crawling and jumping over his muscles with the slightest air change. There was a building glow of heat behind his eyes, a feeling of belonging, like finally settling in front of furnace after surviving days out in the cold.  He pays the strange markings on his skin no mind, alive as they move like free flames over him.

The boy in front of him seems no where near as pleased as Sasuke feels. His head lolls lazily to the side, a cocky smile infiltrating his features as a tingly warmth fills him. 

Thank you to this reader for giving me this prime opportunity to show how having no friends for an extended period of time in my life, is also the reason why I now have both writing and artistic skills to be proud of.
