Gold, calaverite, quartz. pyrite, all of them fit one criteria or another, but not all of them. As far as he could gather, none of them had any history in absorbing energy. Of course gold was conductive, but that hardly helped.

Book after book, hour after hour, rock by boring rock. Tobias was a scholar. Learning was one of his many passions. But when you spend days on end reading about minerals, time feels as stagnant as those same rocks. 

As the research dragged on, the warlock came upon a rather commonly named title; Arcane Elements. It sounded just out of a bad movie from the nineties…(just thinking about it made him feel old). Although one of the first books he’d picked out for his pile, it was one of the last he’d gotten to. What could it possibly hold past the basics? Finally, turning the brittle pages, he realized what he was dealing with. It wasn’t a typical Manuel, but a Grimoire. The very pages themselves leaked an arcane aura, making his fingers tingle with energy.

With a new vigor and excitement, he began to scroll through the convoluted text. Time seemed to suddenly speed up once again, and before he knew it, the candle that lit his view was beginning to dim. Finally, he spotted something. It was near the end of the book in a section that was secluded from the rest. They were journal entries, almost like field notes. The one that struck out to him was that of a cave exploration gone awry.

The mage had written about his adventure down a previously thought unexplored cavern. It began in an already rather deep crevice somewhere in the woods, where the explorer found it covered by vines and various life. skipping ahead towards the end of the entry, there was a vivid telling of a sort of, and to quote, “ Yellow goo, “. From what he could tell, it matched the description perfectly! He described it as a bright golden color, resting in a small crack in the caverns walls. There was a rather old humanoid skeleton resting just at the base of the substance. According to the journal, when the man touched it, he felt as if the very magic connection he held was being tapped into and drained, causing the element to harden and crystallize! This had to be it! 

“It was only a matter of time before YOU decided to visit the great and glorious mmm....Earldom! ...MY Earldom!”
