Like okay sometimes I find myself seeing problematic posts made by the trc fandom and I like don't even think anything of it like I even reblogged the one about Adams mom??? and then you'll post something about it and call people out and COMPLETELY open my eyes to how something is wrong like?!!! I'm learning really hard to reevaluate how I see things in this fandom and /why/ i see them that way and a lot of it is thanks to you so like thanks for calling everyone out on their shit.
oh my god thank you and no i totally do that myself sometimes?? like iāll look at old posts i made or reblogged and just cringe because oh god how did i not realize what i was endorsing. but tbh itās basically impossible not to make mistakes especially because the characters in trc are written in a very realistic way where a lot of them are likable but not good (like kavinsky or the greenmantles) or good but not likable (like the gray man or sometimes blue even though personally i like her a lot).
and while things like people defending kavinsky or adamās mom are fairly easy for me to call out because iāve had friends in similar emotionally abusive relationships so those posts come across to me as people disrespecting my friendsā trauma, i also think i just have a different perspective than a lot of people because iāve literally been involved with dozens of different fandoms on multiple websites over the course of a frigginā decadeĀ so iām really, really, ridiculously familiar with a lot of the traps and patterns that fandoms tend to fall into, while most people our age have not been talking about and engaging with as many different pieces of media in as many different ways for as long as i have so a lot of people will see something as a new idea or debate while iāll see it asĀ āyeah we resolved this back in 2006 with the warrior cats fandom so...ā.
basically iām actually an old lady fandom anthropologist so as soon as i see someone doing something likeĀ saying they canāt relate to a female character i know right away to examine their reasoning to see if itās because of something legitimate like the characterās personality or worldview or something bullshit like her age or race or non-perfection. and it took me fucking yearsĀ and shitloads of help from other people to recognize problematic mentalities and trends like that in fandom culture and even now i still fuck up all the time so. weāre all learning, is i guess my point. and holy shit i have to be at work in like half an hour and iām still in my pajamas.
