"Hey, princess." Eddie practically purrs as he stands at the entrance of their studio apartment, finding Steve nuzzled in a blanket on the couch, hair still ruffled and glasses on from a day of not leaving the house. And like clockwork, the pet name makes its way to Steve's face, tinting his cheeks pink as he rolls his eyes. But he smiles fondly at Eddie nevertheless

Eddie had known Steve was royalty the moment he saw him walking the halls of Hawkins High. But back then, he thought of him as a king. A king who could not care less about some lowly peasants and freaks in the kingdom the those high school halls.

But then Eddie really got to know Steve. He got to see a kind, loyal, bitchy, loving man who would do anything for those he cares about. He remembers the moment he jokingly referred to him as King Steve when they first started dating, and in that instant he saw Steve'sface waiver, a look of sadness crossing over it, and though he quickly recovered, Eddie knew he struck a cord. Now he gets why. Because Steve is not a king.

Kings could be evil, like Emperor Palpatine, manipulating those around him to take control.

Kings could be greedy, like King Midas, surrounding himself with physical wealth at the expense of those he should love.

Kings could be treacherous, like Sauron, ruining the lives of those around him, just to maintain control.

Kings, in Eddie's experience, were selfish, shitty, terrible people. Steve was not. But princesses, they were something different.

Princesses were brave, like Wonder Woman, taking on any evil the world throws at them.

Princesses were resilient, like Cinderella, putting up with hell from their family even when they shouldn't have to.

Princesses were rebellious, like Princess Leia, willing to rebell against what she knows is wrong for the sake of her followers.

Princesses could be stubborn, like Princess Eilonwy, not willing to just be some damsel in distress.

Princesses could be fair like Snow White, have great hair like Rapunzel, be gorgeous, and kind like Aurora. And Steve was all these things.
