This is old but I was looking through my tag n I think I should clarify. I was salty bc seeing people act like Daniel is a good uwu guy makes me annoyed. The way I worded it makes it seem like I was defending pedo ships oof

Ok this is a good addition because that was pretty yikes, I’m glad that wasn’t the case, but also if you think I personally see Daniel Camp Camp as a good uwu guy you’ve severely misread the room. 

Daniel Baker (this version of Daniel, adapted for my own use because I didn’t want to come up with a wholeass new religion so I just coopted christianity) is not a good person. Not even REMOTELY a good person. 

But if you go through my blog, he’s often upbeat, cheerful, kind, ready to help people, and overall charming - and that’s the keyword, right there: charming. He knows how to manipulate people and a HUGE part of that (and what keeps him out of jail, basically) is making other people think that he’s a good person. 

Because the terrible things that he does, in my story for him, are all under the table. A cult leader cannot sustain a cult if everyone in it is convinced that he’s a horrible person. A cult leader relies on charm, on “secret knowledge”, on being a figure of authority and some higher wisdom as compared to the people he’s charmed into following him.

So when I write Daniel as a “good person” who has positive interactions and who generally presents himself (or who I, as a writer, present him) as a good person, it’s because that’s his schtick. That’s his whole business model, that allows him to stay in power. The people that he manipulates in his cult are the people who think that he has their best interest at heart, who believe his spiel about being a prophet of God, who think that he was imparted some great spiritual wisdom that can only be received through him. 

I say all of this with the utmost confidence in my writing him this way because I spent a good two or three months before launching this blog researching the dynamics found within real life cults, drew inspiration from New Religious Movements and extremist sects of Christianity as well as more well-known cults like Heaven’s Gate and The Branch Davidians. 

That all being said, I’m still willing to acknowledge that my Daniel has redeeming qualities. A lot of the time I’ll be going on about how much he loves his family, and his feelings and actions related to people who he cares deeply about. These things are a facet of his personality, and they’re good things about him!! He took in a pregnant, homeless teenager while he himself had no home, and then helped her raise her child. That’s an indisputably good thing he did!! And he loves them!! He loves Jen and wants to provide a good, stable life for her. He has a soft spot for kids who aren’t Max!! But these things don’t change the fact that he’s a literal cult leader and a murderer. It just makes him a 3-Dimensional character who’s horrible deeds have more complexity to them with the presence of redeeming qualities.

There’s a mountain of evidence showing that our behaviours, interests, and mannerisms are socially influenced and both males are females are born as blank canvases. Brain sex is a tired and disproven trait. Almost no human has a brain that is completely sexed. Our brains are mosaics of what would typically be considered male or female. Our brains reflect our experinces. Our brains aren’t static. Our brains are plastic.

many possible reasons:

-they want their sex to align more closely with their gender

-people refuse to accept then otherwise

-when it comes to top surgery for trans men, it alleviates the need for binding. Binding can be very uncomfortable and, for people with larger chests, still may not achieve the desired flatness.

1) So sex is important for them to identify themselves with and be more comfortable but shouldn't be important for a potential parter to identify a potential mate and someone they'll be comfortable with? What makes trans people think they get to decide when it's important?

2) when this is the case it should definitely be discouraged, an adult can do whatever they want with their body of course but pleasing someone who is rejecting you seems like a terrible reason and one they are most likely to regret

Shouldnt the fight for the trans community be about being accepted as they are? Instead of changing their bodies to please others? I pose that as a question because it doesn't affect me, this is trans people's decision. But I will say they should definitely be looking for like-minded partners who can overlook sex, instead of pressuring people who care about sex to align to their beliefs
