It said just through season 5 people are just assuming it'll be season 6 too

See the first half of the season kind of bored me but I just barely watched this episode and it had me enthralled - maybe because as you said it had kind of a Buffy-like feel to it? The humor was spot on and it was generally fantastic.

i'm one of the people who really loved 3a purely because i started watching at a point where i was able to mainline S1, S2 and S3a together. my main love for the show lies is with Derek, and 3a was what i'd been waiting for in terms of his character development, getting past the young, stupid mistakes he made; the need for power and putting on a strong face and not letting anybody in.

3a, he gradually became more humble, stronger, quieter, less aggressive, moving closer and closer to the big brother/guardian monolith figure i desperately want him to be. but at the same time, he didn't stop being Derek. he didn't stop making big mistakes, and learning from them. he's in development, and he needs that step before he becomes the hero he's meant to be, i think. he had to make those mistakes and begin to overcome his flaws to get to where he needs to go.

i think 3a was far, far more subtle in terms of development than any of the other seasons, which is why it felt really dull for a lot of folks after Hunters and Kanimas and whatnot. it had plenty of gross problems (especially in terms of the female characters' treatment), but focusing on Derek, 3 has been my favorite season thus far and this episode is only reinforcing that for me. there was waaaay too little Derek in it, which is my biggest complaint, but jesus Dylan acted his ass off, and the focus being on Stiles this much has me excited for what's to come. also, we got plenty of papa Stilinski and a solid beginning to a whole new storyline focusing around him and his involvement which, FUCK YES. plus, a new female character that's obviously funny, clever and intriguing. idk, the whole ep just had a feeling about it that just - gave me a lot of nostalgia for the older shows i loved so much like BtVS and Veronica Mars.
