Many parents in India are often confused about the difference between primary classes and special education. Both have something to do with educating the children of school age, but primary is for children that are enrolled in kindergarten while special education is for children who were not enrolled in kindergarten and have a more complex educational needs. Today, at around 3am I was up wondering what I had gotten myself into. I find it really hard to say no to opportunities, especially the kind which I had been considering for a long time, and then all of a sudden, someone's being expected to step up and I still have the nerve to squeeze it into my "schedule." Just a week ago, I had said yes to being the Sunday school teacher for two Sundays this August for the primary kids. I was already expectant then that I would be most fulfilled if I said yes by faith, it's just that... I had had no prior experience of teaching primary kids specifically until today. Though I enjoy being with children, by God's grace I had been active in many other areas of service, and the need for volunteer teachers was unknown to me until just recently. I also knew my tendency to deviate from what others normally do, so I had a few what-ifs...

After praying and crying to God, realizing that I could not bring Him the glory alone by own efforts and the fact that I had not managed my time well again, I rested my heart on Him and woke up feeling physically tired, prepared (because, in my quiet times and reading of His word, God has been assuring and reassuring me that though He will not tell me everything, He is actively at work everywhere and will keep on working on our relationship and its influence and outward impact, though it's constantly being attacked.) yet unprepared (because, I still had to make some props and to prepare at least a mental outline of my presentation), and very, very, very excited. What a huge amount of trust He has given me! What faithfulness He has towards me, because even my growth is His own doing! What great joy and privilege to be entrusted with the hearts of little children! What an exciting life I truly am living, even without any denial of the reality of hardship and pain. I cannot explain the elation of being around children. There was this strange realization of being less of who I was and being more the person I was made to be, of wasting away physically and being renewed spiritually at the same time, of knowing that I am not needed or worthy and yet I was chosen for my very weakness so that I can be fully molded for God's purposes instead of my own, and of being both a channel of blessing and a glad recipient myself. There were two boys in our class of five students. One kept on falling off his chair while the other kept on telling me again and again that he wanted me to end the story of Joseph so that we could move onto the writing or drawing exercises. The latter kept me busy with his little boy antics, but that only drove me to love him even more. Towards the end of the class he was the one who shyly reached across the table to play with my fingers. For the nth time, he interrupted me and instantly melted my heart with these words: "Sana ikaw na lang ulet yung teacher namin next week... (I hope you'll be our teacher again next week.)" I am reminded of so many verses as I process this, but this one keeps on standing out: 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:8-10

RAINBOW FOR REEF - On Wednesday, 9th May, the Primary School had a special fundraiser for Reef Leonard (class 5C).  Reef has had a serious illness and been in the Mater Hospital in Brisbane for the past 10 weeks.

All the children dressed in one of the colors of the rainbow and we took a group photo.

It was a very beautiful moment when we all sent our love and get well wishes to Reef and his family.

We raised a total of $423.10.  This, combined with the $661.20 raised by Class 5C previously, makes a total of $1084.30 to put towards rehabilitation costs for Reef.
