Tony blinks his way to consciousness and finds that heâs staring up at the warm glow of sunlight through a thick canopy of leaves.
âEw,â he says, âwhy am I in a forest?â
The last thing he remembers is some kind of strange energy surging through the tower, the lights flickering and his hair standing on end, and then-
He woke up here. Tony really wishes he was more surprised.
âItâs always a portal,â he sighs as he climbs to his feet, brushing leaves and twigs from his clothes. âI better not be the only one who got caught up in this bullshit,â he grumbles, looking around.
Heâs surrounded by massive trees, thick underbrush, and he doesnât know nearly enough about plants to have a hope of figuring out where he is. He also doesnât see anyone else around, and worst of all, the portal just had to scoop him up in the middle of getting dressed. He can already feel all the bugs coming for his bare chest and the countless parasites digging their way into his bare feet. Awesome.
After a couple seconds of mental debate, he decides to hell with the risk and shouts, "Hello?! Anyone else here? Even a rude portal-creator, maybe?"
The only reply is the soft rustle of leaves above him and the drone of insects.
âRude,â he mutters, âthey could have at least been around to pick a fight or something after magicking me here.â
He looks around again, but every direction looks the same, just trees and bushes and more trees. Heâll have to just pick a direction at random if he wants to go looking for⌠anything. Heâs also pretty sure that the general rule is to not move when lost, but does it really count as lost when heâs been transported here against his will? And then just left alone to be eaten by insects?
âUgh,â he groans as he swats at a bug thatâs hovering around the light of the arc reactor, "this is why I hate magic. And anything even magic related, it all sucks."
From above him comes a chuckle, then a pained groan, and Tony whips his head up to find Bucky tangled in vines and dangling from thick tree branches about thirty feet above him.
âOh hey,â Tony calls in greeting, âthe portal got you too?â
âLooks like,â Bucky sighs, then starts to struggle against the vines and only accomplishes making himself swing and sway in place. âWhy donât I get to be on the ground?â He groans as he stills again.
âThe portal likes me more I guess,â Tony says with a shrug, then wrinkles his nose and adds, âIâm not actually sure Iâm happy about that.â
âLeast you didnâ have to fall through thâ canopy,â Bucky grumbles, just loud enough for Tony to hear.
"Ooh, look who knows his forest terms," Tony says and then laughs as Bucky starts struggling uselessly again. âDo you not have a knife to cut yourself free?!â
Bucky stops wiggling to glare at him, and then reluctantly admits, âI donât have one on me.â
âWhat?â Tony demands with another laugh, temporarily distracted from his anger at the mysterious portal, âWho even are you?!â
âHa ha,â Bucky says dryly, âYou know Sam wonât let me spar with concealed weapons anymore.â
âWeâve all heard the argument,â Tony says with a roll of his eyes, âOne time he breaks his toes kicking you in the boot knife, and heâll never let it go.â A thought occurs to him and he looks around the thick forest again as he asks, âSo you were with Sam when the magic hit? I guess step one is figuring out if anyone else has been personally victimized by teleportation.â
"Step one should be you get up here anâ help me," Bucky says grumpily.
âBold of you to assume I have a knife,â Tony says, âI donât even have a shirt.â He swats at the bugs buzzing around his chest again and then starts eyeing the trunks of the trees that Bucky is tangled in, trying to figure out how the hell heâs going to do this.
The thick vines wrapped around everything give him hand-holds at least, so Tony grits his teeth and starts climbing. Itâs a slow process, the air is thick with humidity, making everything slick and his bare feet slip off of the vines as he tries to make his way up. Heâs pretty sure he can feel Bucky getting more and more impatient, and when Tony pauses to glance up he also feels pretty damn impatient about how little progress heâs made.
âIs this a bad time to mention Iâve never climbed a tree?â Tony asks sheepishly, risking letting go of the vines with one hand so he can wipe sweat from his forehead.
âNah, seems pretty relevant,â Bucky replies, and it looks a lot like heâs trying to fight down a smile, âfair warning, if you fall I am gonna laugh.â
âGreat encouragement,â Tony grumbles and returns his attention to climbing.
He has a couple of close calls, but he doesnât actually fall to his probable death and manages to make his way up to where Bucky is dangling with minimum embarrassment.
âWow, you are really tangled in here,â he says once he gets a look at how thoroughly Bucky is wrapped in vines and covered with loose leaves.
âThanks, I hadnâ noticed,â Bucky says, his voice as dry as the desert, and Tony almost loses his hold when he canât help but laugh.
âStop,â Tony says, âthis is gonna be the most dangerous part, donât make me laugh. I might fall, I might cut you instead of the vines, who knows, anything could happen.â As expected, he nearly loses his balance trying to wiggle out the knife that, thank fuck, is still in the front pocket of his jeans, and Tony quickly adjusts his position so he can wrap his legs tightly around a sturdy branch. âPole dance lessons, donât fail me now,â he mutters under his breath, but apparently Bucky catches it.
âWhat?â He asks with a laugh.
âNothing, you didnât hear that,â Tony says quickly.
âI definitely did,â Bucky says, still laughing, âhow has Rhodes never mentioned that in his âembarrassing Tonyâ stories?â
"Because I threatened him with death," Tony hisses, ânow stop laughing, I have a knife here.â
Bucky just grins at him, giving Tonyâs admittedly small pocket knife a pointed look before his eyes go wide. âIs that the knife I gave you?â He asks, the teasing gone from his voice.
Tony looks at the knife thoughtfully even though he knows it is. Itâs the only pocket knife he owns, because Bucky had gotten hilariously offended that he didnât have one and had immediately pulled one out of his packet to all but force it into Tonyâs hands.
âImpossible to say for sure,â Tony finally says dismissively, because it's that or admit heâs been carrying it pretty much constantly.
âThought you werenât gonna carry it,â Bucky says with a knowing grin that does dangerous things to Tonyâs pulse.
âShut up, I donât know how it got in my pocket,â Tony grumbles, trying to ignore the heat in his cheeks and pointedly turning his attention to cutting Bucky free. The knife is razor sharp, no doubt Buckyâs doing, and it makes quick work of the vines.
âGet my hands first,â Bucky requests, wiggling the only two fingers that apparently arenât trapped, âI donât wanna fall any more.â
âAnd here I was planning on dropping you right on your pretty face,â Tony sighs, then bites his tongue while Bucky laughs.
With each vine that he cuts through Bucky drops an inch or two, swaying in place, and every time he makes a barely audible sound that Tony is trying really hard not to laugh at. He cuts another vine and Bucky lets out a queasy groan as he drops a little further.
âDonât throw up,â Tony pleads, and heâs only half joking.
âI do not like this,â Bucky groans and what Tony can see of his face is pale, âI changed my mind, jusâ drop me.â
âDidnât Sam say you just- jumped out of a plane, once?â Tony has to ask as he starts slicing through the vines a little more haphazardly.
"Yeah, anâ I regretted it, but donât tell him that,â Bucky says with a weak huff of laughter, ââsides, thatâs different, a quick fall anâ its over. This is- ugh, jusâ hanging here- if this takes much longer I really might- Fuck!â
A bunch of the vines snap at once with a surprisingly loud sound and Bucky drops further, jerking and swearing loudly. Something catches the branch that Tony is clinging to, and he only has a split second to feel it tip with a deep groan before it breaks and Tony falls too. He squeezes his eyes shut, trying to prepare himself for an abrupt meeting with the ground, but instead he feels familiar metal fingers wrap around his wrist before he comes to a sudden stop.
Tony dares to squint one eye open and finds that heâs still dangling about ten feet off the ground. The branch he was on has landed in a massive bush that Tony is very glad heâs not also in, because the leaves are rustling aggressively with the stirring of countless bugs.
âDo not drop me in the murder hornet nest,â Tony demands as he shoots a quick glance up at Bucky, whoâs clinging to another branch with one hand and Tony with the other.
âIt might not be anything murderous,â Bucky says, but he doesnât sound very confident. He does tighten his grip around Tonyâs wrist at least, even when Tony jerks with a yelp as an explosion of color bursts out of the bush.
âDonât let them eat me,â Tony says in a panic, trying to pull himself up and climb Buckyâs arm as wings flutter all around him.
"Then stop moving," Bucky returns as they both swing wildly, and Tony reluctantly does.
âOh,â he says when he finally stills enough to see the bugs, âitâs butterflies. Butterflies donât eat people, right?â
âPretty sure no,â Bucky replies with a snort.
Tony looks up at him again as the butterflies continue to swarm past them in a riot of yellow and turquoise wings, making their way up towards the sunlight. Bucky has a small grin on his face as he watches it, and when he notices Tony watching him he smiles wider.
âNot thâ worst time weâve ever been victimized by magic, huh?â Bucky asks, and Tony doesnât think he notices that a butterfly has landed on his head, slowly flapping its wings.
Tony has to swallow his heart back down where it belongs before he can grudgingly admit, âMaybe second worst.â
Bucky laughs, sending the butterfly flying again, and Tony can only smile back.

âI found this with your flag on it, and it made me think of you.â Stephen looked up from his book to see Wong standing in front of him, holding out a small bag. âI thought it would be appropriate, given the, uh⌠celebrations.â
Stephen hummed. âPride month.â
"Yes, that's what it is. Here, open it.â Wong handed the bag to Stephen.
Stephen closed his book and took the bag, opening it with shaking fingers. It was a shirt, Stephen figured. Black, and very soft. Stephen took it out, unfolded it, and had to fight desperately to hold back a laugh.
âWhat? Itâs your flag, the uh⌠pansexual one. Pink, yellow, blue?â
Stephen had to wipe away tears. âYes, but, Wong!â
âWhat? Itâs just three women in your colors?â Wong paused for a second, thinking. âIs it one of your pop culture things again?â
Stephen could only nod. Wong groaned. A few minutes later, Stephen calmed down enough to look at Wong and grin. âI love the sentiment, Wong, and I appreciate your support, butâŚâ Wong looked at Stephen until he continued. âThis is a Schuyler Sisters shirt. From the musical Hamilton.â
Wong kept staring. âWhat, in the Vishanti's name, is a Hamilton.â He finally asked.
Stephen laughed. âWeâre watching it tonight. Alexander Hamilton was a founding father. And, for the record,â Stephen leaned forward and pressed a quick kiss on Wongâs lips, âI really do appreciate your support.â
Yrene Towers slammed the door shut behind her, panting heavily. Of all the way she had expected her expedition to go this was not one of them. Her journey had started well enough; a tearful but wholesome goodbye from her mother, a clear sky ahead, a pack with enough rations to last her into the next village. She loved her mother more dearly than anything, but she felt trapped. Everyday for her felt like the same routine over and over again, she needed a change. So she had then decided to plan an excursion for herself; she had always wanted to travel the continent, and that is exactly what she had decided to do. After a few days of planning, mapping out the route she would take, she finally set off. And up until this point everything was going well, but then she had started making her way through Oakwald forest.
It was fine at first, beautiful even, but as the sky got darker and darker, and as she headed further and further West, she knew something was wrong. Every little sound had her on edge, and she could not shake the feeling that something was watching her. Then the rain had started. It shouldnât have started raining for at least a week, plenty of time for her to reach the next village, but it seemed that the gods had other plans. Although Yreneâs pack had a kit for the night, she would rather not let all of her clothes get soaked. Therefore her only option was to run and find shelter.
She sprinted as fast as her legs could carry her whilst still keeping a sharp eye out for anything that could shield her from the rain and Godâs know what else was lurking in these woods. Even now she could feel the water begin to seep into her clothes, making her feel heavy and tired. Then her boots started getting stuck in the mud. This was bad. Yrene needed to find shelter, fast.
She was hoping for maybe a large tree or maybe even a cave, so when the young woman stumbled across a large cabin she was swallowed by both relief and shock. She didnât know anyone lived here, and from the experience she just had, she didnât anyone would want to live here. But at that moment she was too cold and too wet to care. So she stumbled into the cabin and shut the door behind her.
But now that Yrene was inside she was starting to regret her decision. The idea of residents inside the cabin hadnât crossed her mind until now, and boy did she wish it had. There was furniture, but it was plain, as if only put there to give the appearance of a home. To her right was a simple, wooden table and four chairs to match. In front of them sat a fireplace that looked as if it had never been used at all. To her right was a set of stairs that most likely led to a bedroom, the stairs old enough that Yrene didnât have to go near them without knowing they would creak with every step. Ahead of her stood an open door that showed a bit of what she could assume was a kitchen.Â
The silence inside the cabin was a drastic change to the storm raging outside, and the change had Yreneâs head spinning. Trying not to think about it too much, she laid her sleeping pack down on the floor between the table and stairs, and tried to sleep. If anyone did live here then they would probably wake her and she could explain what had happened, and if no one did then she hoped this house seemed less eerie in the morning.
When Yrene woke she shot upright, the feeling that something was desperately wrong clung to her bones. It was as if whatever had made her feel so nervous yesterday was back tenfold. And now she knew that something was watching her.
âHello?â she called out into the darkness. She must have only slept for a few hours since no light seeped in through the window in the door. âIf someone's there, show yourself.â the quiver in her voice gave away her complete lack of confidence.
âRude little thing arenât you?â a chilling voice called from the darkness. Yrene felt shivers go up her spine. âYou break into my home, sleep on my floor, then demand who I am? If I didnât feel so insulted I would be impressed.â
If Yrene thought things were bad before they were terrible now. âPlease,â she begged, all sense of pride lost, âI am a traveler, I was making my way through the forest when it started raining and I got lost. It was then I discovered your cabin and hoped to find shelter, at least for the night!â
âLost you say?â the voice seemed to come from behind Yrene now, making her head turn.
âYes,â she continued, âI just needed somewhere to stay until the rain stopped and then I would be on my way.â
It was then that the body of the voice decided to emerge from the shadows, and Yreneâs jaw nearly dropped to the floor.
It was a young woman that emerged from the dark, looking to be the same age as Yrene herself, but her beauty was otherworldly. Her long hair shimmered like pure starlight, flowing behind her like a ghost. Her skin was pale as moonlight, pulled over features so sharp they looked as though they could cut flesh. Her body was covered by a blood red cloak that made no sound as she moved, and the ironwood broomstick in her hand gave her away as a witch. But her most shocking trait were the womanâs eyes. Yrene was often complimented on her own eyes, like dark gold they had been described by many. But this womanâs eyes were something else. Her tilted eyes were bright, burning gold that almost seemed to glow in the dark of the night.
As the witch stalked around Yrene, the young woman could only stare right back at her. Her face gave away none of what she was thinking, but Yrene doubted she would live to see the light of day again.
âPlease donât kill me.â Yrene whispered. It was more to herself but as the witch cocked her head she knew that she had heard it. The witches were notorious for killing anyone they found and using the corpses for various spells. The thought alone had Yrene trembling.
âIâm not going to kill you.â
âYouâre not?â Yrene asked, the tremble in her voice driven back by her surprise.
The witch merely shook her head, her hair swaying around her as she did.
âOh.â was all Yrene could think to say after a moment, her brow furrowing in confusion.
The woman must have noticed because eventually she said âYou arenât my type.â Her voice bored.
âI would have hoped I am in a different context.â You idiot. Less than a few seconds ago Yrene was begging for her life and her brain thought now was a good time to flirt? Now she wishes she was dead.
The witch only seemed to chuckle as she hunched down in front of Yrene, from this close she could see how her electrifying eyes scanned over her face, seeming to like what she saw.
âWhat is your name?â she asked, her voice now calm and soothing.
âYrene,â she answered, feeling her self confidence beginning to rise back up to the surface. âAnd you?â
The woman smiled âManon,â she gave her a final once-over. âTell me Yrene,â the young woman tried not to shiver at the way her name sounded coming from Manonâs lips. âDo you know how to cook?â As she said this, she tilted her head back, gesturing towards the sack of food by the door that Yrene had not noticed yet.
âYes!â she blurted out, probably sounding more eager than what was good for her.
âExcellent,â Manon grinned, showing off her sharp teeth. Yrene couldnât prevent the shiver that rolled down her neck this time. Especially not when Manon leaned forward, leaving barely any space between them as she tucked a loose curl behind Yreneâs ear. âYou might have a use hear after all.â

Roman looked down at his wrist. Vi, in white lettering. Every morning when he woke up, it was white again. He supposed that was a good thing, since every morning he would take his pink, yellow, and blue pens and shade in the twisted curls of the letters. This was his way of fighting against his parents. They saw the name Vi on his wrist and cooed over âOh she has such a pretty name, I canât wait until you meet her!â While Roman had nothing against dating a girl, or even having a girl as his soulmate, he didnât want everyone to automatically assume that Vi was a girl. Vi wasnât listed on any baby name websites as a girlsâ name, it was listed as a nickname. But your soulmark was never your soulmateâs nickname, always their name. Something within Roman told him that this mysteriously elegant Vi was not a girl. So every morning he colored their name in the colors of the pansexual flag. His flag.
He was told that when you meet your soulmate, their name turns red. He didnât know if he believed that. His parentsâ soulmarks werenât red, they were black. He didnât want a black soulmark. At school, kids would all color their soulmarks. Dan, the trans boy who had a locker next to Romanâs, colored the name on his wrist âPhilâ with pink, purple, and blue. Talyn, Romanâs cousin, always colored the name Joan with the nonbinary colors. He knew that their soulmark was already red, and Talyn hadnât met anyone named Joan. Thatâs part of why Roman didnât believe that his soulmark would turn red.
As he walked down the hall, he noticed his friend Patton. Patton always colored his name, David, in rainbow. He had been adopted when he was a baby. His parents had seen the name David and immediately gave him up for adoption. They hadnât been able to handle the thought of having a gay son. Thankfully for Patton, heâd been adopted by Remy and Emile Picani, the couple who ran the LGBT+ coffee shop across the street from the school. Speaking of... Roman could use a cup of coffee or two before his final today. He quickly pulled on some white jeans and a red sweatshirt and was out the front door in less than five minutes. He didnât usually come in during the day, only ever after school.
Remy was at the counter, making someoneâs cappuccino. âVi?â the caffeine addicted coffee shop owner called. Roman looked up immediately as a thin person wearing black jeans and a black and purple hoodie went up to the counter. Roman didnât realize he was staring, or that he was walking toward the other, until he suddenly bumped into them.
âOh my gosh Iâm so sorry, I wasnât paying attention to wear I was going. I-â Roman tried to say that he would buy them a new coffee to replace the one heâd spilled on them, until he noticed them wipe the coffee off their wrist. And their soulmark, the name Roman written in a handwriting the actor knew all too well, turned red before his very eyes. He looked down at his own wrist, only to see the pansexual flag fade into red. Viâs eyes widened. Roman was the first to speak. âYouâre them.â he looked Vi in the eyes. âYouâre Vi.â And with that, Vi ran out. Roman hurried to the counter. âHow often do they come in?â he asked. Remy gave him a look, so Roman held up his red soulmark.
âVi comes in every morning before school, Fae always orders a caramel cappuccino with an extra shot of espresso. Faeâs homeschooled, and does faer school here sometimes. Vi doesnât much like strangers, but maybe if you hang around the place when fae does, you wonât be a stranger anymore.â
Roman nodded. He would be here every morning before school. âCan I get a job?â he asked, deciding that would be his excuse for being here more often.
Remy laughed and nodded. âSure kid, but only until that soulmark turns black. Until they love you.â

This was supposed to be posted on June 1 but Iâm slow when it comes to writing, so enjoy the demisexual fluff drabble I wrote
Word count: 457
Roman Knightâs day was just like any other. He woke up, got dressed, brushed his teeth, and he was off to school. The biggest difference in today was that tonight was prom. The red and gold streamers lined the hall, and balloons filled the gym. He didnât have to go to class, because heâd volunteered to lead the prom committee. That was all that was different though. Everything else was the same. After school, he would go home and do homework, then go to bed at some point.
âRoman, have you finished the arrangements for refreshments?â Logan Parrel asked, looking up from his clipboard and checklist.
âYes, just finished. Everything will be ready on time, just breathe.â
âNot everything,â Logan gave Roman a pointed look. The brunette sighed.
âLogan I donât need to go home early to get ready because I'm not going. Iâve told you that. I donât even have a date.â
âWho says you need a date for prom? You can go with me, as friends.â
âAnd let everyone think Iâm gay? Logan, I face enough hell from people thinking I'm gay because I'm a drama kid and head of the prom committee. Why would I want to give them more ammo by coming to prom with a guy.â
âOkay well first off, thereâs nothing wrong with being gay-â
âI didnât say there was. But I'm not gay, so I donât want people to think I am.â
âIf youâre not gay then explain the many many many jokes you make about not being straight?â Logan raised an eyebrow.
âYou do know thereâs sexualities other than gay or straight, right?â Roman asked with a laugh. âIâm demisexual, so therefore not straight. But also not gay.â
Logan chuckled and shook his head. âI never thought Iâd see the day.â
âWhat day?â
âThe day you finally come out. Iâve known you werenât straight since third grade when Mary Lou kissed you under the basketball goal and you screamed and ran away.â Logan smiled. Romanâs face turned every shade of pink.
âI-I didnât know what a kiss was! I thought she was trying to eat me!â
Logan laughed. âFine, if you donât want to go to prom, then how about you at least let me buy you dinner?â
Roman shrugged. âSo long as I can pick the place.â
âAlright, whatâs your pick?â
âMcDonaldâsâ
âRoman that is the least romantic place in existence,â Logan laughed.
âExactly,â The grin on Romanâs face was contagious. Although perhaps the reason Patton and Virgil were laughing on the other side of the room was because Logan had just been shot down when he asked out the guy heâd had a crush on his whole life. Or at the very least since the third grade.

Their relationship doesnât start easily, hell, it doesnât even start. Itâs never something acknowledged, never something discussed. There are no conversations about I love you and I love him and I love her and we all love each other. There are no conversations about faithfulness, of loyalty, of love. There is simply the understanding that this is it. It is them. Itâs Jackâs constant mother henning and wicked tongue, pushing and prodding and being almost too much, only to shrink back whenever someone snap near him. Itâs Charlesâ demons, his pain and anger and rage, his inability to see compromise or defeat, his rough hands and carefully thought through words. Itâs Anneâs quietness, the almost vibrating tension of her body, threat in every breath she takes, itâs the pain she harbors inside and the knowledge that she will never be hurt again.
There is never a conversation signifying the start of their relationship. It just is, one day, just them waking up and knowing that this is it, knowing by the way their hands reach for each other first and their needs are seen to before their own. Jack giving up his food, a small feat in itself, had it not been for his absolute refusal to ever again feel hunger - and yet, he gives them the food off his plate without a second thought. Anne seeking out their bodies, not only for the pleasures of a good fuck, but for warmth and care and compassion - for callused hands stroking through her hair and soft kisses placed on her lips. Charles accepting defeat, acknowledging his wrongdoings, asking for their forgiveness, asking for their acceptance - giving out soft touches and receiving the redemption when theyâre accepted.
Their relationship doesnât start easily. It doesnât start at all. It just is - as sure as the tide.
The maltese queen stalked out of her den, shouldering past the other lionesses if they didnât move out of the way. A nightmare foal stuck close to her hip, doing its best to not fall behind.
âMay I ask where youâre heading, my highness?â Bluestar stopped in her tracks, her nightmare foal let out an unhappy nicker. She turned to look at the elderly lioness, trying to hold in her anger.
âIâm going hunting.â She said curtly.
âHunting, whatever for, with all the poachers left behind Rot brings back plenty and with your daughter-â The lioness spoke but was cut off with a growl from the queen.
âWhat about Corvo?â Bluestar questioned, her ears flattened against her skull.
âI just thought that with Corvo about youâd like to stay back and relax.â The older lioness said, choosing her words carefully.
âWell, you thought wrong, Iâll be back in time to feed her.â Bluestar snarled and turned away from her. She quickly went from walking to running as she headed toward the open plains.
Bluestar hated the jungle; the thick trees made her feel like she was suffocating. She took a deep, calming breath as she reached the tree line. Her dark eyes observed the plains, she didnât want a challenge today perhaps there was a nearby human village.
Her ear twitched, she could hear paws padding up behind her. Her lips curled over her teeth; if it was Rot coming to lecture her on her behavior she was going to add a new scar to his muzzle.
The queen was pleasantly surprised when she looked behind her. The daughter she never had, Silver.
Silver had recently turned two and was perfect. Dana always had perfect cubs.
âWould you mind some company on your outing?â Silver inquired her queen, an amused gleam in her black eyes. A gleam that was shared with her faceless hyena cub, Cof, no one much cared for the little thing as it laughed far too often.
âNot at all, it is about time for us to learn to hunt together.â Bluestar replied, offering a smile to the young lioness. The queen always led the hunts and those beneath her needed to adhere to her rules; her usual team didnât even need to be given instructions. Bluestar pressed on into the open, she felt much better with her new companion.
Silver needed no instruction to follow her queen into the tall grass, her claws already extended to take down whatever Bluestar wanted.
Dana always had perfect cubs but they were always odd.
