Hobart's Pride Bus, a mobile symbol of LGBTQ+ acceptance

Local bus operator Kinetic have launched a mobile symbol of support and acceptance for Hobart’s LGBTQ+ community, the Pride Bus.

Taking community members across Hobart for free was the perfect way for Kinetic to launch the Pride Bus for Wear it Purple Day.

Spreading a message of love and acceptance across the city, the rainbow-wrapped charter bus features the message ‘You Are Loved’ with vibrant Pride colours.

The bus took community members on a tour around Hobart, visiting key Hobart landmarks like Mount Nelson, Kingston Beach and MONA.

The bus tour was a collaboration between transport operator Kinetic, TasPride, Equality Tasmania and Working it Out.

Promoting visibility and inclusion for Tasmania’s LGBTQIA+ community.

More than getting you from A to B

The new Pride bus will provide charter services across Greater Hobart.

Joining Kinetic’s existing Pride-wrapped SkyBus that operates on the Hobart CBD to airport route.

What a brilliant way to expand the reach of positive messaging for LGBTQIA+ inclusion across the city’s transport network.

“We’ve received such great community feedback about our Pride-wrapped SkyBus,” said Kinetic Tasmania’s General Manager, Andrew Grzinic.

“And we wanted to bring a second bus to Hobart that would travel around the whole city,”

“Bringing a message of inclusion to all who come across it.”

“The bus sends a clear message that everyone should feel comfortable being themselves,

“And that our community stands together in support of LGBTQ+ Tasmanians.”

Kinetic’s Pride buses are an important way to create safe spaces for all members of the community who travel via public transport across the city.

Bus driver and proud member of the Pride community, Bee Kingston, said she was proud to be behind the wheel promoting the message of acceptance.

“As a proud member of the rainbow community and a current employee of Kinetic, I have a deep passion for ensuring every bus I drive is a safe and welcoming space for all,” said Kingston.

“It’s not just about getting people from A to B,””It’s about making sure everyone is respected, valued, and can be their true, authentic self whilst travelling onboard.”

Tells young LGBTQIA+ people they are not alone

Kinetic has already provided reliable transport for LGBTIQA+ community events, including the Artfully Queer fundraiser, New NorFUNK.

“We look forward to continuing our partnership with Kinetic,” said TasPride Committee Member Phoebe Adams.

“Who have shown their active support of diversity and inclusion, not just in words but in actions,”

We are starting to see many organisations back away from supporting inclusive LGBTQIA+ events and organisations.

Some say it is because of diversity and inclusion policies coming under fire, others say it’s about money.

But seeing a partnership like this, which supports in actions and mobile visibility, is very special.

As a queer person from regional Tasmania, Equality Tasmania board member Trenton Hoare knows the importance of visible signs of pride.

“It tells young LGBTQIA+ people they are not alone,” said Hoare.

“And it reminds the rest of the community that inclusion is a goal to which most Tasmanians aspire,”

“In the last few months, we have seen a number of companies withdraw their support from Pride events in other countries.

“So, it’s great to see companies like Kinetic increasing their support for our community.”
