Holographic Prints!!! I discovered the CatPrint website, and decided to test out their holographic option. What better way to test it out than with the Mighty Nein and my magical girl D&D classes! Check out a video if the effect on twitter or instagram. They turned out so nice, I ordered some of my prints for Pretty Heroes Con this weekend in Toronto!
Lucky enough to have received a D&D character commission request from @burcolleen at the Pretty Heroes convention ^^ tons of fun, what a badass! If you have any commission requests contact me! 🤘 . . . #commission #art #artistsoninstagram #artwork #prettyheroes #convention #d&d #dungeonsanddragons #dndcharacter #dnd #awesome #badass #illustragram #illustration #digital #digitalart #photoshop #pinkhair #pink #D&D https://www.instagram.com/p/B0g8_EfAF0Y/?igshid=q06rd5g7gjw5

PRETTY HEROES 2018: MENTAL HEALTH IN COSPLAY AND CONVENTIONS
The first panel I attended at Pretty Heroes 2018 was titled Social Anxieties/Mental Health in Cosplay and Conventions. This was a welcome event to see on the schedule, especially considering that I myself suffer from zero anxiety or mental health problems whatsoever and would like to learn more about said issues. Ahem. The panellists included Rachael, a crisis counselor living in Los Angeles; Sam, a Toronto Social Worker dealing with LGBTQ youth and a member of Toronto Gaymers; and Katherine, also from Toronto and currently working in the travel industry.
One of the most important ideas brought up during this discussion was the powerful influence of fandom: What we watch, read and play stays with us and has an impact. Stories have power, and can give us strength to deal with various issues and obstacles in our lives. Rachael shared her own personal coming-out tale, centered around the ways she was inspired by Sailor Neptune, aka Michiru Kaiou, while growing up. I love hearing stories about how our favorite characters influence our lives, especially as I have many, many, many of my own personal examples of being inspired by characters which I’ve felt something of a connection to. The most recent was approximately 1-2 years ago and involved a television character who helped me significantly with my own anxieties regarding various social situations, from dating worries to public transit (god damn travelling metal tubes…). Though I believe I shall be mean and leave you with only that clue; the full story is meant for another time. But essentially, I agree with Rachael that fiction can be a very powerful tool, occasionally presenting us with valuable mirror images of ourselves that we can learn from and be inspired by. The panellists later went over a few issues faced in the fandom community, namely the problem of harassment (both online and in-person), the importance of community, and the need for occasional quiet time during cons. This third point really stood out to me. Sam mentioned how, at cons requiring an overnight stay, it can be a great idea to have your own separate hotel room rather than sharing with others….a peaceful sanctuary to get away from the noise and chaos of the event. It was nice to hear someone bring this up, as I am one of those people who absolutely despises sharing a hotel room during overnight con events, and I had previously been led to believe (by many in the fandom scene) that the only reasons one could possibly have for wanting their own private room would be to practice dark magic or to sell hard drugs. Sadly, my own reasons are much less exciting. My overview was quite brief, the above points being my own two major takeaways from the discussion. Overall I enjoyed the panel; I think it was important, informative, and necessary. I would like to live in a world one day where discussing your mental health problems and personal difficulties is just as mundane and ordinary as mentioning which pair of pants you’ve decided to wear that day. Panels like this are a good step in the right direction!
