why i don’t tell anyone my grades/test scores/class rank, etc.
It’s not their business.
The only reason people ask is to compare their scores to yours, not because they want to congratulate you for doing so well. You may notice, they will not be quite as gleeful if you do as well or better than them.
None of these statistics present an accurate picture of how smart I am or how hard I work.
It’s not classy (in the way that asking people how much money they make isn’t classy.)
I don’t want to make people feel bad if they didn’t do as well.
I don’t want people to feel superior to me if they did better. It is, after all, 1 number, not the be-all-end-all of my intelligence.
Bragging or “humble bragging” about this sort of crap is myopic and annoying.
These statistics may not translate into me doing well in my chosen field of study, or present an inaccurate portrait of what I want to study/what type of student I am.
