Science Museum offering PrepareAthon
You’ll learn how to build your own water filter and make a solar oven if you attend the PrepareAthon on Aug. 27 at the Science Museum of Virginia.
The PrepareAthon will be a free community event from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the museum at 2500 West Broad St. in Richmond. You’ll receive life-saving information to help you protect your family during an emergency and learn more about resiliency.
You’ll have a chance to learn hands-only CPR, ride inside an ambulance simulator and save three lives by donating blood.
You’ll also have an opportunity to participate in resiliency-themed climate change activities in the museum, including Science on a Sphere demonstrations and hands-on experiments in Eco Lab. You can check out a bicycle-powered blender being used to make delicious smoothies.
If you register for a disaster preparedness workshop, you’ll receive a free preparedness kit, valued at $45, and meet with local experts to discuss food, water, energy, health and safety preparedness.
Admission to the PrepareAthon and museum exhibits are free on Aug. 27 only. Pre-registration is required for workshops. To register for a workshop, call 804-864-1400. Visit www.smv.org.
