Confidence I wish I had!
Gender has always been a topic on my mind. I feared surgery because of its cost and risk of infection. But more importantly, I knew changing gender would not change my mental state (pressure from school, not identity). Third, I did not view myself as a strong man because of the men in my life. Lastly, no one outside of the computer would acknowledge me as a guy based on appearance.
After the RuPaul's Drag Race internet boom, I became curious. Did drag kings exist? Low and behold, they did! Watching people's artistry bring characters to life feels surreal to witness. I am glad drag kings encompass more than what is expected! I am still learning that drag seeks to break the preconceived gender roles of society through the love of art. Basically, I am glad to see others have the courage to do what I cannot.

“Stoneface” by Veruca Salt has always been one of my favorites. The way the backup vocals enhance the lead, with the bass and guitar moving so effortlessly together, is just perfect. I recently watched a live performance from May 11, 1995 (venue unknown), and the rawness in her voice blew me away—every note felt full of emotion. I could rewatch it forever. Fosythia from the same set was just as intense, gritty, and captivating. This performance perfectly shows why Veruca Salt’s music still resonates: unpolished, emotional, and full of energy that hits you straight in the chest.
