#prefect problems

sirius hates her. obviously. violently. personally. spiritually. she is his sworn enemy and also somehow his worst mirror.

james thinks she’s funny, but he takes sirius’ side because that’s his brother in stupidity.

peter avoids her completely because he has survival instincts sometimes and aria looks like the sort of person who would make him worse on purpose.

remus avoids her too, but in a much more instinctive way. something about her feels wrong to him. sharp. smoky. too much like a predator pretending to be a girl.

lily fucking hates her because lily is a prefect, then head girl, and aria is aria. loud, reckless, constantly in trouble, somehow still getting good grades without trying, which only makes lily angrier.

mary is annoyed by her on principle.

marlene thinks aria is hilarious and enables her because marlene also enjoys watching situations get worse.

fabian and gideon don’t really care about her. she’s just another moving disaster in a castle full of them.

frank mostly ignores her, but he doesn’t like her much.

alice is the same, except with extra disappointment. not angry. not dramatic. just that very specific disappointed look that somehow feels worse.

and the thing is, none of them really know her.

they don’t know why she is the way she is. they don’t care enough to ask. to them, aria is just trouble with eyeliner and good grades.

which, to be fair, is not inaccurate.

James had put his bullying behaviour behind him–– or so he’d decided over the summer holidays. The incident with Snape last year really spooked him, made things feel more real beyond school-yard fun. It wasn’t fun anymore, someone almost died. 

For the first time, James was forced to really see the impact his actions. How one small prank or a few jokes made in the privacy of the common room could have drastic consequences. 

That said, it was hard to break old habits. Its not as though he went around the school looking for a victim to his sometimes cruel jokes. He wasn’t a bloody Slytherin for Merlin’s sake! People just crossed his path, or said things, or worse tried to impress him. 

“So you’re saying you don’t want your chocolate frog.” James wagged the stolen frog in his hand and chuckled. The first year and his friend were in position to argue with the 6th year. So instead they just stared at James wide-eyed, unsure how to take the older boy. 

“I mean, that’s fine... I’ll eat it for you,” he continued with a nonchalant shrug. He started to unwrap it dramatically. 

“Just give it back,” one sighed defeatedly. 

Ahem? Okay, in the end, I don't care if you think you know what you're all doing. I highly doubt that Headmistress McGonaggle meant "I give you free range to explore dangerous places like the Chamber of Secrets unattended" when she asked for your help, and even if she would allow it, I just can't just allow you to run off to dangerous parts of the castle without knowing what's happening, I'm going down there myself! Clarissa, if you want to come down too, I'll leave the door open. I'll report back tomorrow after I get back out!
