But even after exchanging multiple texts the night before, and him promising the time would work, Jimin was nowhere to be found. Ever since you had gone out for smoothies weeks ago, you had become gym partners and working out without him felt like a chore.

As you left the gym, slamming your card on the reception in frustration at the feeling of being stood up even when this was your daily routine anyway, but as the receptionist scanned you out asking a few questions about how your workout had gone. You answered the questionnaire, allowing yourself to calm down by watching the animals in the pen they kept for shifters who would accidentally fully shift.

It had happened after a girl had shifted into a Labrador and proceeded to bound around the gym, chewing on weights and licking the faces of people in planks; ever since if someone shifted due to stress or overworking they would be put in the pen. The girl’s voice was monotone, and your attention was currently being held by the kitten in the pen, looking you directlly in the eye before it began to pace, fluffy tail dragging along the railings.

With one last look at the almond shaped brown eyes, a rush of realisation filled you as you recognised Jimin’s ragdoll form. The receptionist was happy to hand him over, and as she placed his small, warm form in your hands you tried to hide the broad smile that spread across your face as his purrs filled your ears.

The trip home was fast and Jimin’s head was relaxed against your shoulder, his whiskers tickled your neck and every now and then he would bat at a loose strand of your hair, all the while purring as your hand ran through his soft fur.

When you finally got to your door, you placed Jimin on the floor, smiling as he wound around your legs waiting for you to open the door; your keys jangled with the large pompoms attached to them and as you left them in the door, swinging it open to watch Jimin chase after them and your cheeks began to ache due to the smile that spread across your face.

“Jimin, I’m exhausted but you can stay the night,” you walked through the apartment, walking into the bathroom and closing the door before he followed you in. But Jimin was busy inspecting your house, jumping onto your sofa where your scent was strongest as he began to nuzzle his face into the surface beginning to scent mark it.

He knew it was childish, but he felt like you were his and the thought of another male with similar intentions to him made his tail flick in annoyance. However, it was hard to stay angry when you emerged from your bathroom in a towel, followed by a cloud of fog as you walked to Jimin and stroked his head slowly. You tapped him on the head before walking to your room to get changed, watching as Jimin slipped through the closing door and you knew even if he was shifted it was still Jimin.

Jimin didn’t bother watching you get changed as he leapt onto the bed, wondering why he was still stuck in his cat form, although since he had met you he found himself trying not to shift because he didn’t want to hear you call him cute or adorable. In the friendship, he was aware he was weaker compared to you, and he was scared that you would refuse to date him when he was smaller than you in his form. But apparently, by stopping his animal urges he was left shifting under all the pressure he put on himsef.

“What’s going on in that furry head of yours?” Your hand ruffled through Jimin’s fur and without thinking he crawled onto your lap, as you sunk into the bed. You had to admit that Jimin’s form was probably one of the cutest things you had ever seen and yet it contrasted the hardness of his abs and strong thighs that you would catch yourself watching when you worked out together.

All of those hard edges had melted into soft fur and small legs, and you felt your heartbeat speed up as he began to purr, his eyes locked with yours as he licked your hand, before burying his head under it as if to ask for a stroke; you fell asleep stroking his soft white and brown fur and it was the best dream you had in a long time.

You woke up to a weight on your stomach, different from the soft fur that had been there the night before, shifting slightly you looked to find Jimin’s arm slung over your stomach. Jimin’s bare golden torso was faced down, and without thinking, you let a hand trail down his spine. You were surprised he had shifted during his sleep, but you could sense by his furrowed brow that he was under a lot of stress.

Jimin’s eyes fluttered open, his gaze locked with yours and when he realised he was back to his normal form, a vivid blush covered his cheeks when he noticed his apparent nudity. But your smile made everything more bearable and this time when you bent down to place a kiss on his forehead, Jimin’s face flushed for another reason.

He used his arm to pull you into his chest, and as you looked into each other’s eyes, Jimin smiled before asking a question that he had wanted to ask since he had first seen you at the gym.

“Wanna be my girlfriend?” You were so close his lips grazed yours as he asked you the question and as a reply you simply leant forward and planted a firm kiss to his lips. You had been waiting so long to hear those words.
