Did I already do one of these for zoomers? Oh well.
(so i learned a bit about how cars work from Winglord a while back so this is based off learning about cars after that)
I don’t think zoomers would use oil (or at least, that the oil wouldn’t need to be replaced). I know oil is a mainstay of things looking mechanical is to smear used motor oil on them, but since zoomers use eco they wouldn’t use a combustion engine, and thus the oil wouldn’t turn black after going through the engine.
Ah, in case you didn’t know, cars using petrol run off explosions; the piston goes down letting in petrol and air, then that stuff gets compressed and lit with a spark from the spark-plug, which then explodes, pushing it down really fast. (thanks physics class!) This process makes the oil flowing all through and around the engine turn black as it picks up some of that stuff off the various parts.Â
So that’s what a combustion engine is. However zoomers run off eco right? So they probably use an eco battery of some kind, thus the oil would rarely have to be changed so long as a lot of debris didn’t get into the engine/oil. The same runs true for electric cars, so we may as well say zoomers have electric motors running on eco.Â
(Electric motors use magnets, basically when you run a current though metal that’s between magnets it moves, so that’s it. They rotate.)
The problem would be in how to make magnets, and I think that’s where out power cells might come in, aside from being used to power a battery.Â
Electricity running through a coiled wire makes a magnetic field, which is why when introduced to another magnetic field it moves, anyway, a small impermanent magnet wouldn’t be too hard to make, but for Keira it’d be a lot of work to make an actual magnet for her zoomer’s and heat shield's electric motor.Â
the first known magnets were lodestone, which happen to be pretty naturally magnetic, and are an iron oxide. Anyway, making a magnet means heating up a combinations of metals a lot and then arranging their crystallization then treating them, making them into powder then reforming them under a strong magnetic field. Sorta. which is a lot more industrial than we can really expect Keira to do.
The power cells of course have a magnetic field though, as they are four metal orbs that are not stuck together and tend to move constantly, so it’s possible Keira tried to make magnets by using their magnetic fields, using some to power devices to heat up metals, help her refine an eco battery, and other random tasks in order to make her zoomer more fuel efficient/ faster/ more powerful/ able to not explode.
The cars probably use oil though, and then condensed eco like nitro.Â
Zoomers probably use superconductors, (they have no resistance in energy transfers, though they normally have to be REALLY cold, but there’s one they just made which is hydrogen based and uses earth temperatures so that’s awesome) which make their own magnetic field and can levitate given a magnetic track. And considering the world has like, catacombs of metal everywhere from the precursors lets just say that’s a given.Â
The heat shield might be less about a literal heat shield but more about making sure the superconductors don’t get so hot they stop floating. Precursor orbs might do this too, so maybe a zoomer is just a metal shell stuffed with powercells keeping it afloat.
