Ok *cracks knuckles* I'm gonna make an attempt to make my version of Samos at least a little sympathetic. Asshole Samos is always fun to make fun of but ill try to make this work just for fun
One thing first, I'm adding a bit of lore about eco. So, using dark eco can lead to corruption, but the same thing can happen with all eco types, its just is less aggressive/slower. If you use one type of eco constantly over a long period of time, you'll start suffering from effects/mutations.
So to start, young Samos is a loser. He naturally has an affinity for green eco and nature, but due to what Haven becomes and how rarer eco is to track down, he's not a strong sage. That being the case he puts more work into wits and tactical planning, gaining him the position of 'the shadow'. His smarts is the only thing that gets him this role, as he's a complete toss when working with others. When he's told by Onin about how important it is to track down Mar/baby Jak, he does it for the sake of the revolution, as well as to prove is abilities to a powerful sage. He didn't really like being a babysitter, but did have every intention of putting Mar somewhere safe (mostly so the kid was out of the way and not something Samos had to worry about on top of everything.)
When he's sent to the past with baby Jak, he's totally thrilled about being in a world overflowing with eco, and goes abit overboard with using it as much as he can. At the start he did start growing fond of Jak, which is what initially made him soft enough to let Keira live with them, but using so much eco while being as untrained as he was led to him becoming detached (got stuck in a mind set of needing to do anything for the sake of the timeline/keeping the balance/sage mumbo jumbo) and he went back to thinking he just needed both Jak and Keira close by so he was sure they were with him when they returned to the future. (is also why he's more cruel with Daxter as he see's him as a chaos point/anomaly in the timeline)
When they all do end up in Haven, Samos is put in prison where the branches attached to him are removed, and he slowly loses the connection to eco he had gained in Sandover. Without this power making him a little bit crazy, he comes to the horrifying realization that he basically became what Gol and Maia were, and his nulled emotions lead him to sending a bunch of children into a war-torn city. Samos tries to warn is younger self about what he'll become, but is meet with a much more arrogant version of himself, who has no interest in heeding the warning of a very frail, weak and powerless Samos. "I'll do better than you" which is how everything ends up repeating. He also get to witness first hand his younger self verbally abusing Daxter (he's already seen how much Jak suffered from all of this and how important Daxter is to keep him grounded) and finally realizes 'omg, all I was doing all this time was watching over someone else's destiny, all I had to do was make sure no one died, and I did it in the most egotistical, unpleasant way possible. what is wrong with me?'
The end of the second game also marks the end of Samos's knowledge of the future. He doesn't know if anything will happen next. During all of the third game Samos is the one who puts the most work into getting Jak out of the desert. He feels like not doing everything to protect them now will just prove he only ever saw them as a means to an end, so if he at least ensures the three are safe and happy now, maybe he'll deserve some forgiveness.
A big thing is that he outright apologizes to Daxter. Its slightly awkward and Daxter thinks he's messing with him at first, but he tries and that's more than anything OG Samos did.
So to summarize, Samos is a sad little nobody in his youth so acts really know-it-all to compensate for his lack of self image. When exposed to a high amount of eco, he lets his want for status turn him into the worst version of himself. Only when he's severed from this power does he become aware of how similar he was to Gol and Maia, which sends him spiraling into damage control for the sake of the kids he cares for. yes, that includes Daxter.
Jak X is where he acts less like an overprotective father stopping Keira from racing, more like an estranged grunkle who loudly supports all his kids throughout the championship.
there, now it can finally stop bothering me to not have the whole trio in my style.
honestly i think its funnier for Daxter to be the tallest/lankiest in the entire village, the type to constantly use his height to mess with people, especially Samos, and then he gets turned into rat and dude is just

also am i the only one who thinks Daxter's goggles sorta stand out against the other villages? maybe his parents had come from a different area. I headcannon that Daxter remembers his and Keira's parents the clearest, and before Samos came through the gateway Daxter took on the job of looking out for Keira.
My version of Daxter is basically Keira's big brother, and when baby Jak showed up Daxter went ahead and added him to the family. I'm giving the reason he messes with Samos so much because he thinks he's a jerk for adopting and giving Keira a home but then just leaving him to still live out on his own (since Samos doesn't recognize Daxter which makes him unimportant to Samos)
An unintentional consequence of this is Jak mostly sleeping outside to keep his brother company (something Samos is never happy about)

Some quick things about the vibe swap projectsulfur au in case anyone's interested:
The situations they start off in aren't swapped, Simon still was wrapped up in cult stuff and got blamed for filament station, only he doesn't spend anytime in prison, he's sent off to the blood ocean immediately. Grace works with the government to find what's causing the stars to disappear, but when time comes for the ship to leave he actually manages to get away. The project fails without Grace there and the sun gets colder and colder until a couple years later Grace is found again and gets sent up to space alone cause at that point earth has nothing left to do, they're basically out of time now. (in essence, Simon gets his emotional support blood eel from the start and is able to work through his feelings, while Grace sits in his regret for nearly a decade and then gets his leg torn up by an angry space rock)
Eva and Ava are almost the same as the og versions. Ava doesn't really get the chance to care about Simon as after the SM-13 gets knocked off course and communication is lost, Simon just chills with Elli. Eva holds slightly more contempt for Grace after he ran from the project (can you blame him tho he was feeling threatened)
The fates of their worlds are swapped (planet earth slightly more screwed). Simon finds answers in the blood ocean, with Elli's help of course, and they send their findings back to the surface. Grace sends back what are essentially panicked scribbles and is then found by the team blood duo.
Simon doesn't go back to the surface due to both wanting to spend time with his new fish friend, plus something akin to decompression sickness. So if he wants to go back he'd have to do it slowly? makes sense? idk anymore
Grace probably has some sorta title the same way Simon is called The Butcher in the movie. The Deserter, or something akin to that.
Elli communicates psychically so there isn't any language barrier, just an initial freakout from Simon (and then Grace later on)
also some made the joke the rocky just needed a translator and it was all a misunderstanding. ha. no. this rocky is not fucking around, you need to run
the only people having a good time is Simon and Eel/Elli

Ive seen the idea of swapping the scenarios theyre in, so instead i swapped their vibes. Simon having the best time in that blood ocean, making friends with mutant fish that can speak telepathically, while Grace is fighting for his life against an alien rock that generates hazardous atmosphere.
idk if anyone else has done this and given a name to it. i googled what the opposite of a 'bloody mary' drink is and it came up with a 'bloody caesar'. i dont know about that one chief. Iron hail? please tell me someone else has thought this through

It would make sense that Tess be the same as Daxter since that happened in J3 but if we ignore that detail. I think she would be a bunny or cat.

I got a bit distracted playing requiem, but I'm done now so ill be getting back to actual projects.
This game also may have cause a new fixation. tbh never got into res games, just liked a handful of characters (for perfectly normal reasons), now i got a worm in my brain screaming at me to play every game in the franchise.

I'm legit about to crash the fuc out I swear to god, one night after playing requiem just before reaching the end of the care center level I had a dream where I followed an achievement guide where u had to dump bodies into a grinder for 15 minutes and then drain the basin which would leave behind a doll which you'd need for a later part of the puzzle and when i woke up I was like "well that was weird" and kept playing and had A FUCKING MENTAL EPISODE WHEN I GOT DOWN TO THE ACTUAL GRINDER. but I thought no way u can actually get a doll here that would be weird
