Heraclitus believed all things are derived from fire.

Empedocles – Scientist of the Day

Empedocles, a Greek pre-Socratic natural philosopher, lived and wrote sometime around 440 B.C.E; he was probably born around 490 and died about 434 B.C.E. 

Everything comes from fire, primitive thermodynamic theory. It is a rational process, fire does not change, it transforms, everything happens by the union of opposites. Union- Disunity that causes chaos.

The racinal process runs its course and eventually returns to harmony.
