Dorcas Meadowes was so freaking pretty, especially when she got angry. Marlene remembered all the times she drove her crazy over the years because she loved watching her lose her senses.
Out of the brainless Slytherin bitches, Marlene hated Dorcas the most. She hated how many times she stared at her flawless appearance. She hated how pretty perfect she was. Best grades, clean record, one of teachers' favourites. She hated how talented she was at dancing. Marlene had seen a couple of YouTube videos in which she featured and had sneaked into some of her private practices with her private instructor (by accident!). Marlene hated how much she wanted to be Dorcas Meadowes or simply be closer to her.
But most of all, Marlene hated the moments alone with the girl that had led her to believe Dorcas was more than plastic, beauty and perfection. Dorcas was human.
It happened during detention together when they got to talk. Marlene learned the pressure she felt from her mother to be a better ballerina than her. Marlene learned why she liked her plastic friends so much that weren't that plastic. Then in a random meeting, Dorcas taught her how difficult it was to dance ballet and how what she did was amazing.
Marlene had tripped and Dorcas had grabbed her before falling and they had a moment...
Then Dorcas had gone to the Infirmary after Marlene suffered a concussion during rugby. Of course she said she was there to get a pill for cramps. But Marlene had hoped she was worried. After talking and laughing, they had a moment again...
Those moments in which Marlene felt the curiosity to know what it would be like to kiss her.
Obviously those ice princess lips full of gloss would be appealing for boys. Dorcas wasn't known to have had boyfriends before. There was a long queue of blokes that would be thrilled to have a change with her. Marlene had heard that Dorcas just was too busy for dating.
Marlene hated how Dorcas thought herself better than the rest. No wonder Marlene called her the Ice Princess.
The hate she felt for the girl made Marlene want to die. Looking at her beauty right now gave Marlene a strange burn on her chest. She felt chills running through her body.
Marlene wasn't even paying attention to Alecto's disgusting speech about how Sirius was hers or whatever and that she should stay away from him. Marlene was thinking that kissing Sirius had been a colossal mistake.
When all she wanted to do right now was take Dorcas's hand and drag her somewhere else and kiss that beautiful face, that beautiful mouth. Or kiss her right now and shut Alecto up.
God, Dorcas wasn't even looking at her. She seemed pissed.
"And honestly following him around makes you a pathetic case, honey" Alecto was saying "It is painfully obvious that Sirius is beyond you and maybe he just kissed you because he was drunk or out of pity"
Alecto lived in the sad illusion that Sirius Black was going to stop being a rake, fall in love with her, marry her and have bunch of kids with her.
"Maybe you should hear your own words" Marlene answered finally looking away from Dorcas.
"Maybe Sirius is better off with someone intellectually competent like Marlene" Mary intervened.
Marlene's best friend was happy with the possibility of her and Sirius because she didn't know Marlene's internal struggle of trying not to not want Dorcas Meadowes.
"And that's mud girl?" Alecto scoffed. That's how these girls called her "All she does is act like a Neanderthal bloke, all with pure salvage instincts"
"Oh fuck off! At least I don't cry because my nail broke"
"You're so fucking basic" Alecto snapped
"Please!" It was Lily who spoke "Can we all calm down? Sirius Black is just a boy"
"Just get over the fact that Sirius has actually good taste" Mary spat "He's into Marlene, a real woman, not a Barbie with no tits!"
"I'm surprised you weren't the one to make a move on Black, Macdonald. Since you're easy with boys" Alice commented.
Marlene was losing patience "Oh please! It was just a random kiss at a party. Move on!"
"It was not just a random kiss, McKinnon"
There she was, speaking like an angry angel. Usually Alecto was the one to speak bollocks about them. But Dorcas was always happy to contradict Marlene. They bickered until someone had to stop them. Marlene secretly enjoyed those moments.
Not now. Dorcas seemed genuinely pissed.
"You shouldn't have kissed him" she said as she took a step closer, standing in front of Marlene. She froze "Black had invited Alecto to that party as his date. And you should've known how hopeful she was about it..."
"I was..." Alecto pouted.
"They had had special moments together in the past, you know? Conversations in which they got to know each other... For real... And they laughed together and taught each other things..."
Marlene suspected Dorcas wasn't talking about Sirius and Alecto.
"Maybe they had moments in which she thought that he felt something for her. Because of a smile and a glance. Maybe she imagined that that night they would talk and maybe dance a little and have fun... And maybe at the end of the night kiss like she had been imagining for days"
Marlene's heart started beating fast. Has Dorcas been thinking about kissing her as much as she had?
"Maybe that secretly made her happy and normal for once. Like the girl she actually was and not what everyone expected of her..." Dorcas continued "And then... He ignores her even if she compliments his looks,"
Marlene remembered well what Dorcas had said about her new dress. The dress borrowed from Mary to impress Sirius. She had said Marlene didn't need a short girly dress to be pretty.
"But she was still hoping that perhaps he would reach out and dance with her. Or talk with her and maybe something magical might have begun" Dorcas snorted "But then you have to come and ruin everything!"
Marlene swallowed. She was so stupid. She had been so scared about her feelings for Dorcas. She had been pressured by Mary and James to dance with Sirius. She had gotten drunk and she had kissed him hoping she could forget about this girl. Hoping she would be normal and what everyone expected of her.
Now she regretted it. Even after going upstairs they had stopped and Marlene had confessed to Sirius everything.
But then Marlene had said she was Sirius's girlfriend in front of the whole school just to help him trick his dad. It was a faƧade to please Mr. Black so he would leave Sirius alone.
Of course Dorcas didn't know that.
"You go and kiss him like you didn't care about people's feelings!" Dorcas had tears in her eyes now. Those beautiful brown eyes "And now you brag around calling yourself his girlfriend when you knew... You knew how Alecto felt. Maybe you were just mocking her all along..."
Everything had been real between them.
"You really just acted like all innocent and not interested at all so you can nail your claws into him" Alecto snapped, crossing her arms.
The girl might've been hollow but she seemed hurt. Honestly Sirius shouldn't have led her on.
But Marlene cared about Dorcas right now.
"Maybe it is true what they say and you're turning in the same whore that your friend is"
There were gaps and ohs of surprise. Marlene was surprised too. She couldn't believe the pretty perfect princess had just said that. Her eyes were watery like she was so angry she wanted to cry.
Well... Marlene was someone whose blood boiled easily. Especially when someone insulted Mary like that.
"Oh yeah?" Marlene snapped back "At least I got some action. I'm not a prude who doesn't give a chance to anyone because she is a bitter bitch who thinks she is better than everyone!"
Marlene felt the slap against her cheek before she could even finish the phrase.
The gasps of surprise were louder this time. Lily had covered her mouth. They all had their mouths wide open.
Marlene had never been slapped before, it hurt. She was so shocked that she touched her cheek.
Dorcas was still beautiful even if she looked devastated like she was about to cry. Which made Marlene's heart ache. She wasn't angry anymore. She just wanted to tell her the truth.
Marlene wanted her. She would prefer kissing her than Sirius. She would prefer kissing her than anyone else. God! How much she liked Dorcas Meadowes.
How much she wanted to hug her, kiss her now and comfort her like that.
However Dorcas was too embarrassed to stay. She turned on her heels and ran away before she would cry in front of everyone. Because pretty princesses didn't shred tears in front of pebbles.
Alecto's shock turned into amusement. All her friends were giggling now.
"That'll show you to stay away from what's not yours, honey" Alecto said before leaving after Dorcas. Her two minion friends followed her.
"Are you okay, Marly?" Lily asked touching her arm.
Once the shock was gone, Marlene was rather angry. Who did she think she was? That girl was going to drive Marlene insane. She hated how much she wanted to slap her back but at the same time kiss her senseless.
"Wow! I've never seen Meadowes insult or slap anyone before" Mary commented "I didn't think she had true feelings"
"Stupid rich spoiled princess!" Marlene groaned.
"Don't worry" Mary touched her shoulder "We will definitely get back at her"
Lily rolled her eyes "And I really want to yell at Black for causing this mess"
"I hate Dorcas Meadowes!"
The truth was... She didn't. Not even a little. It was quite the opposite. Marlene just hated that feeling.
She was falling for Dorcas Meadowes.
