Dare to Believe: Faith Goals 2016
At this start of the year, I’m not going to list my new year resolutions as I’m fully aware that I will not be able to follow them religiously. Instead, I want to start my year right by realigning my heart to God’s heart. As part of the prayer and fasting season, I decided to write here the things that I am praying for. This will also serve as a reference for me to see how faithful God can be if I were to dare believe in His capability to bless me abundantly. :)
1) I’m praying for spiritual growth. I want to be able to have bigger encounters with Jesus Christ. I want more of His self- revelations in every way along my spiritual journey this 2016. I’m also praying for spiritual discipline to be sure that Jesus will always be my priority. I want to have a prayerful and generous heart. I want to be able to commit myself to Church services every Sunday, devotions every day, Bible reading every day, and tithing.
2) I’m praying for compassion to see thru Jesus’ eyes, to hear thru His ears, to heal thru His hands, and to love through His heart; patience to wait on the revelation of His will; self- control to think before I do or say something that may hurt the people around me; humility to acknowledge that all my successes come from God; provision to know His will in every situation and/or decision I have to make; and courage to speak out my mind and to do the things I’m scared to do.
3) I’m praying for God to make ways so I could be involved in missionary works in school, in Church, or in the community.
4) I’m praying for the man destined for me by God (if there’s any). I pray that he is now growing in his relationship with Christ so that when we can finally be together, he can *lead me with strong hands, stand up when I can’t, don’t leave me hungry for love chasing dreams* (lyrics from the song Lead Me by Sanctus Real =P ).
5) I’m praying for Tatay Reden’s salvation. He has been more open now to Christianity but I’m hoping that God will make a personal encounter with him so that he can be more committed in seeking a closer relationship with Christ. I pray that God will write His laws on my tatay’s heart so that he may understand and experience the saving power of Christ.
6) I’m praying for Nanay Adel’s salvation. She is now ready for a spiritual harvest as she becomes attracted to the good works emphasized in Buddhism. This is the right time to reach her out; otherwise the enemy might be able to snatch her away. I pray that she will be able to realize that good works alone can never save her and that she needs Christ’s salvation. I also pray that Christ will set her free from paganistic or superstitious beliefs and activities. I pray that Christ will heal her from hypertension and from whatever serious diseases that may be causing the hypertension.
7) I’m praying for my brother Rhenel’s salvation. He is the religious one among the family and I pray that God will show him that he cannot be saved by religion; salvation is only thru accepting Christ as Lord and Savior and thru having a closer relationship with him. I also pray for his college graduation on time, his board exam, and his job applications. I pray that he will be able to adhere to integrity and honesty as he serves his country as a policeman and that God will always protect him from serious attacks, accidents, etc. I pray for a godly relationship between him and his girlfriend, Kris.
8) I’m praying for my youngest brother Dexter. He has already accepted Christ as Lord and Savior but I pray for his spiritual growth. I pray that he will seek more of Christ and less of himself. I also pray that he will be able to stop his vices (drinking alcohol and smoking). I also pray for his acceptance in the college of his choice and may this be in alignment to God’s will.
9) I pray for complete freedom from debts.
10) I pray for financial stability. I hope God will bless my parents with decent income. I also pray for a capital to start our own business – a variety store which can later become a grocery store. =)
11) I pray for freedom from any serious diseases and accidents of all the members of our family.
12) I pray that God will not allow massive earthquakes, great flooding, or any major calamity to occur in Marikina City or in any place where any of my family is at so that we can all be safe from dangers.
13) I pray for commitment to excellence in my studies (in studying for exams, in transcribing lectures in Surgery, and in history- taking of patients and in doing physical examinations).
14) I pray that I will be able to acquire excellent skills in history- taking, physical examination, and clinical evaluation of the patients I encounter.
15) I pray that Medicine will not only be my field of study but my lifestyle.
16) I pray for the continual support of the St. Luke’s Medical Center Foundation, Inc. for my tuition, miscellaneous, laboratory fees and books.
17) I pray that I will be promoted to third year. I pray for a GWA of at least 85 with no grade lower than 80 in any of my individual subjects so that I can be qualified for academic scholarship in third year (for the free books that go with the scholarship!)
18) I pray for the continuation of financial support from Ma’am Natalie, Sir David and Ma’am Tet for my post-grad education.
19) I pray for passion to do volunteering works (in medical missions, in leadership trainings organized by Pathways to Higher Education, at PAWS) and passion also to attend seminars about breakthroughs in the medical field and/ or supplemental lectures in certain medical topics.
20) I pray for more social skills so I can make more meaningful relationships with my colleagues and so that I can relate more with patients.
21) I want to have new stethoscope (with my name engraved on it) and my own oto-ophthalmoscope.
22) I pray that God will reveal to me the specialization He wants me to take.
23) I want to be able to travel to different places / countries while practicing the profession I chose (thru conventions, missions, etc.)
24) I’m praying for the growth of my Victory group with Paola, Phoebe, and Mitch. I’m praying that we will be able to have stronger relationships with each other and may we all grow together in faith.
25) I’m praying for the growth of my Agape groups:
a) With Ea, Shane, and Airene. I pray that we will have more small group meetings this 2016 (i.e. we only had 1 meeting last 2015). I also pray that we will be closer together so that we can share with each other the bitter sweet suffering that is med school. Ea will be a clerk already this year so she will be busier than ever; but even so, I pray that we will be able to keep the sisterhood in Christ.
b) With Carmela, Airene, Christelle, and Sam. I pray that we, 2nd years, will be able to have closer bonds with the 1st years so that they can be more comfortable in sharing their experiences with us. I pray that we will all grow together in our relationship with Christ.
c) With Dra. Ang, Carmela, and other doctors. I pray that our weekly Bible studies will be full of revelations from God’s Words and that God will keep our fire burning for Him.
26) I’m praying for the classroom evangelism in the 2nd year class (I pray that there could also be one in the 1st year class). I pray that God will touch the hearts of all Christians in the classroom to really push through this activity. I pray that the Holy Spirit will stir may be 2-3 of my Christian classmates (including me if it’s God’s will) to stand up and testify on God’s love, grace, and mercy. I also pray that God will inspire courage among the Christian men in the class to lead the sharing / proclaiming of the Gospel. Lastly, I pray that God will prepare the hearts of my classmates for receiving God’s Words.
27) I’m praying for the weekly Bible study in the 2nd year class to be pushed through this year so that all Christians in the class can grow together in our relationship with Christ as we journey the path to being a doctor. I know that the study load in med school can be so overwhelming that we often forget to acknowledge the lordship of Christ in ALL aspects of our lives. So I pray that we will always remember that our lord is Christ and not our studies or careers. I pray that this activity will also encourage deeper friendships among us.
28) I’m praying for Med to Be: A Night of Praise and Worship, a project of Agape NCR to be held in February. I pray for all the members of the organizing committee – may we be able to organize the event in the best way that God deserves and may we be able to find joy in this additional but God- glorifying work. Also, I pray that all med schools in NCR will be able to send delegates for this event. Lastly, I pray that all Christian medical students who will attend this event will be blessed abundantly so that God will be glorified even more.
29) I pray for the success of Welcome Back Party in SLCM to be held on Friday, 8 Jan. With God’s grace I’m claiming the success of the project. I pray that the program will run smoothly; I pray for the speaker (whoever s/he is) – may God guides his/her heart as s/he speaks words of encouragement to all medical students; I pray for delicious food for the delight of the attendees; I pray for the fun games and for the meaningful gift- giving. I pray that all students will enjoy the fellowship from this day and beyond.
30) I pray for the success of Heartbeat National in Dumaguete. I pray that God will bless SLCM Agape abundantly so that all Lukans who want to know more about God can all be covered (free registration and transportation fees)! I pray that the financial blessing will be so overflowing that we can have extra budget for pizza party! YAY!! Above all, I pray that thru this event, more future doctors will be able to become Christ- like to perform the three ministries of Christ – teach, preach, and heal. I pray for the organizing committee and for the speaker - may they all be guided by the Holy Spirit so that they can become successful and happy in this great task.
31) I pray for the rise of Christians in the first year class to lead the school ministry (to lead Agape).
32) I pray for the success of all the projects of SLMC Doctors in Touch. I pray for abundant blessings to be upon Dr. Magsombol, Dra. Ang, Dra. Tess, and all the other members of the movement. I pray that they will have more encounters with God to give them joy and satisfaction as they work on the progression of the Great Commission in St. Luke’s hospital and college.
33) I pray for the salvation of my friends / classmates – Marwin, Dee J, Nics, Kat, Chat, Flor
34) I pray for more blessings for my sponsors – Ma’am Natalie and Sir David; Ma’am Tet. I pray that God will repay their generosity twice, thrice, or even 7- folds more!!
