The Plantation owners built these small buildings called “Praise Houses” to ensure that Africans learned about the Bible!! ... They built them especially small so that not many people could fit in them. The slave masters were afraid of large crowds of Africans congregating!! .. The Africans used these structures as a place to iron out issues that are brought by members of the community to resolve, whether it was stolen property, or cheating spouse! ...
