I might love nielan just a little bit.

~NieLan Week 2026~

December 27, 2026 - January 2, 2027

I’ve decided that the inciting incidence is going to be both Lan Qiren and Madam Lan (named Li Yawen) having prophetic dreams of the future. This ties them together as they try to figure out what’s going on with the dreams. It takes them a couple years where they sort of accidentally become friends (no romance though because I personally love the headcanon of AroAce! Lan Qiren) and Lan Qiren’s got his head out of his arse and is starting to realise that the whole Madam Lan situation is Fucked Up. But still, neither of them are thinking much beyond how to stop the disastrous events of their dreams from coming true. 

Lan Qiren wants to stay with the Lan to change things from the inside whilst Li Yawen wants to change enough that the chance of the events of canon are impossible to occur. Then comes an event that neither of them expect: Qingheng-Jun is coming out of seclusion (he’s heard rumours/through the grapevine/with his own spies that LQR and LYW are getting closer and he’s suspicious of 1. Them being romantically involved, 2. Them plotting something). 

This forces their hand in the end. Li Yawen refuses to let her boys anywhere near that man that has trapped her for years. She refuses and she tells Lan Qiren this, yells at him until her throat is raw. 

“What now, Lan Qiren?” She demands, throat raw with her anger. The boys are still asleep behind her and her window of time is closing so quickly, and she’s still weak so she doesn’t know how she’s going to carry both of them out and she can’t just choose between her children. “I have remained imprisoned long enough. I will not subject my children to the same fate. What will you do now?”

Move aside. She begs him in her mind, the only companion she has had these past few years. Let us leave this without bloodshed. 

Instead Lan Qiren looks at her with weary eyes. She knows the look in his eyes, the haunting that has tied their lives together. His eyes flick over to the open door behind her, where her sons lay safe in slumber’s embrace. Whatever war takes place in his mind has its victor as he meets her eyes once more. 

He bows his head. “This lowly one asks only to join you.”

So yes, a fic where the twins jades are raised by their mother as rogue cultivators and Nielan have the whole childhood friends to lost friends dynamic. Madam Lan dies in the beginnings of the war with Wen Ruohan. The twins jades join the fight but don’t align themselves to any sect.  It’s been like 18 years so the twins jades’ faces have changed enough that they aren’t instantly recognisable. 

Madam Lan taught her sons to not trust the Great Sects so Lan Wangji goes to see if the rumours about the Yiling Laozu hold any truth, whilst Lan Xichen tries to get closer to the leaders of the Great Sects to see what information he can get from them about the specifics of the war. Unfortunately, Lan Xichen accidentally catches the eye of Nie Mingjue - who he’s been trying to avoid - who catches onto the fact that Lan Xichen is hiding things and is suspicious as fuck. Both of them are now circling each other (keep your friends close and your enemies closer etc.) and trying to ignore the rising affection between them as the war progresses. 

In the Burial Mounds Lan Wangji accidentally falls in love with the Yiling Laozu. 

The fic would probably be nielan focused with wangxian in the background (maybe a separate fic for the ) but I need ideas for like the specifics of it? Please help if you can!!

Now, someone has to explain to me why I feel the physical need to post that Nielan looking at me from my files. The funny thing is I haven't developed the plot yet, I just have like a lot of sentences that don't make sense. And now they make sense :D

I don't want to do the stupid thing of letting this one out so quickly, but it seems like it's coming out more naturally than breathing. Not because I have other stuff going on, okay, other than that. I HAVE NO PLOT, JUST A FEELING

And I think I'll follow it, because "Mirror on the wall, who is it that I love?" and it's quite big and complex I won't tell you anything but don't expect too much tranquility :D

BUT HOLY SHIT, this is another plot that looks at me like "yep, I'm back to bother you UNTIL YOU DECIDE WHAT THE FUCK YOU WANT TO DO" because the mirror plot was something I've been wanting to do for a while and I'm so glad you got it out there but this one… oh boy this one has the spice I've been looking for to stick in a Nielan for a while.

And yes, Jin Guangyao will be a top-notch son of a bitch in this one. If in my fanfictions Jin Guangyao left him in a gray area, in this plot he will be the one who wants to put a bomb under his chair without saying "I might reconsider". NAH, JUST NAH.

Happy to know the writing part never went away, BUT HOLY SHIT IT SEEMS LIKE I UNCLOGGED A SINK AND NOW EVERYTHING IS OVERFLOWING. God, all it took was pulling some teeth to get back to this. I feel like crying with happiness 🥲

AND NOW I'M WONDERING IF IT'S A GOOD IDEA TO RELEASE THIS IDEA…but I already know the answer.

Hell the fuck YEAH, it deserves the sun. Although I'll have to refrain from blowing up Jin Guangyao right away :D

I don't know when it will come out but it will come out and this idea is worse than the sirens and I don't have earplugs to stop it.

In the meantime I'll be good and lock in on Lan Qiren's analysis, then I'LL THINK ABOUT DEVELOPING THIS IDEA. If I have to blow up Jin Guangyao I have to do it elegantly and without pressing the trigger right away.

Summary:
