Pre class state: I had a full day ahead of me, with a few tricky variables to navigate, and this was my pulse from the moment I awoke. Insisting itself on my mind amidst this was the concern that I’d lose my new spot in class- an attachment I ought to get rid of before it begins. Otherwise all was alright within me.

Class experience: I’ve realized I’m in love with Yoga in much the same way that I was and remain in love with literature. Practice is like a simple story from a master writer. On the mat I could be doing nothing more than keeping my knee bent at a ninety degree angle. Like a man in a story busy with nothing more than parking his car. Mundane and yet both lend themselves to the possibility of great infusion via flow. The flow makes the detail richly alive. I think this is why I was aghast at Iyengar. The clutter of details like a cluttered story from an overzealous novice writer. These are thoughts but my class experience was feeling this love. It’s a fondness both for and from the practice.

In addition to lofty experiences of love was the fact that Ashtanga makes me sweat and I took my shirt off. This is the second class that I dared to be just in a sports bra, which, for me, is not meaningless. Regarding this, last weeks class was the landmark and I ought to get around to filling out that practice log while it still stands fresh in my memory.

Asana Highlight: I actually flipped over in the Chakrasana transition on my own. I thought doing so was going to be a really long time coming, and I think I also thought I might never actually be able to. So I was stunned, and delighted to say the least. I’ve never done such a thing even as a child. However, I tried doing it again at home and wasn’t able to.

Post class state: Before concluding with OM, my gem of an instructor suggested we imbue our OM with a specific intention for the day. So I did. My precious niece was coming to join me for Kundalini next, and I had some anxiety about how that would go down. My OM was a request that the experience should be something good given to her. OM or not, good and great was given to her.
