Samara has many supernatural natural abilities and powers, although she wasn't able to use most if them until after she died and became a spirit. her main power is called Nensha, it is also called thoughtography and psychic photography. It lets the user burn or project an image onto walls or paper and other items, in this case a video tape. The pictures can not be damaged very easily after they are made. Samara doesn't have much control  over the images but she can focus them or aim them. She can project images into a person's mind causing them pain or torment. it was done accidently at first on to her adoptive parents, the Morgans. But she did use them on purpose to drive the horses to kill themselves, she thought her mother and father loved the horses more than her.

On the video tap it contains memories and images she had seen. She can also send people into flash backs into her life or enter a persons dreams where she can harm people, she has burnt her hand prints on to people but these seem to heal over time. Samara tape can also have people go throw things she had durring her own experiences.

When she did die she gained more power, and wanted to kill everyone who did not try to find and help her. Her presences itself has been known to scare aniamls such as deer (seen in movie two) or horses. Or have the animals attack people who have seen the tap. Like horse from movie one attacking Rachel, or the deer in movie two attacking Rachel and her son while driving. 

She also can travel from her tap, through a persons Tv and into the real world. Her tapes inner world seems to break the very law of physics like that.

Samara scares her victims to death, leaving them, with a horribly mutated looking face at the end of by reveling her own face to them. She also uses the telephone to contact people after they've watched the tape.

Also in movie 2 she seems to have the ability to posses people, she can't really act like that person, but it seems that she puts that person into a dreaming like state. Although she control over the persons body can be take away by putting the person in water to exorcise her.

She can also do inhuman movements like the "sider-walks" she did up the well.
