So yeah, Sunday not better at all, knackered :( Got our lawn mowed and half of communal (was just getting too late and not enough bin space left, plus EVERYONE's washing was out!). Did all that after major potting up session. Put Kit Kat catmint into a terracotta pot, potted up the white monarda, and noticed that they'd not called it Schneewitchen but "Snow Queen", which, erm, isn't the translation?! So I'll have to check if they've given me wrong one or they just suck at translating! :D Planted up the stalk that snapped off when I got it. It had sat in a glass on windowsill and had nicely rooted. Had some poppies that had sown themselves into an obelisk, so planted them up as interesting red hairs on them. Took up 2 lavender seedlings that had been between Blue Mountain White, Royal Purple and Princess Blue, so we'll call em 'Royal Blue Mountain Princess,, cos that just rolls off the tongue ;P They've gone inside to replace the ones OH deaded whilst I was away (a 6 year old Blue Ice and I think a seedling rather than a cutting). Then it was splitting up a coriander and greek basil I'd got from the supermarket for the kitchen. Coriander went into the 3 pots from Malta. Basil was split into 5 of the rice green pots, then 2 purple pots (with only 1 plant in each of the purple pots). Finally potted up the prickly poppies that I've just been abandoning to cell tray, so that they can bulk up some. 14 in all, all in purple pots and left on deck. Cue slugs. Oh there was a MASSIVE caterpillar starting to chomp the monarda!
Started off potting up what needed potting up - the verbascums bought in the Autumn, what was left of the mints from last year that I never potted up, plus the new mints and new thyme. Also a thyme that's been sat for ages in a wee pot, now in a proper terracotta one to replace it's parent plant on the balcony. Then treated most of the verbena bonariensis that I've not killed off yet, to bigger pots. Then sowed the seeds that are going to germinate indoors. All sunflowers done (bar Claret for sunflower border as no seeds!). All into purple size pots, 8 pots to a green seedtray, then propagator lid over the top (obviously doesn't close it properly as pots are too high). In all there were 5 trays (2 seeds to each pot except for Key Lime Pie which had 3 seeds to a pot given how small they are). The ones for the normal Sunflower Border (2 trays - including the Claret ones when they're sown) went onto lounge windowsill, 2 of the other 3 for the Sunflower Square and Red Bed (Chianti) into kitchen and final one into dining room. (Lounge windowsill currently also has 2 trays with the geraniums and verbenas in and so all windowsills are completely full now!). For Sunflower Border 7 pots of Kong and 8 pots of Claret. 4 pots of Chianti for Red Bed. Sunflower Square, following number of pots: 3 x Mongolian Giant (one pot is half Russian Giant), 3 x Earthwalker (plus a fourth spare), 3 x Solar Eclipse (plus a fourth spare), 3 x Harlequin, 3 x Key Lime Pie (plus a fourth spare), 3 x Pastiche. Marigolds (tagetes and calendula) for Tango Bed sown into windowsill propagator which then went into dining room windowsill. Used the fewer cell propagator if that makes sense (5 x 4 cells). Put load of seeds in each cell and a tray per variety (Kees Orange, Orange Boy, Indian Prince, Geisha Girl, Princess Orange Black). Lion's Ear was sown 2 seeds to a cell, 6 cells total of Sarah Raven's ones and another 6 cells for the Ebay ones in a windowsill propagator which then went into the kitchen windowsill. The remaining 3 trays were 1 x 6 cells of Cosmos Purity (sprinkled) and 2 x 6 cells (so 12, duh) of Canary Creeper with 2 seeds a cell. Tagetes La Bamba for Sunflower Border sown into 4 gutter trays and put into plastic coldframe. Poppies also into gutter trays and in with them (Blackcurrant Fizz (2 gutters) and Orange King (3 gutters) Sweet peas will have to be sown next week.
Potted up the geraniums and verbena plugs I shouldn’t have bought (forgot doing marigolds in balcony troughs) and then on kitchen shelf. Then mowed grass for first time, at second highest setting, 6, so that it’s more even. Clearly it’s too early in the year, but hopefully it will all be ok.
Then planted up the 4 orange primroses into the Tango Bed.
Of the 50ish verbena bonariensis seem to be only 13 left, which have been ravaged by greenfly and slugs. So sprayed them and slug pelleted.
Repotted all bergamot. Removed half of the rootball, divided those that needed dividing (Vintage Wine and Cambridge Scarlet) and folded around the rest so that the old middle was removed. Tidied out old stems. Then a scoop of compost, scoop of chicken manure, almost a spoon of water granules, then compost. Sprinkling of compost over top as well to help tidy up. Then all put out on deck, with the two new divisions along the line of the verbena on the deck.
Repotted the parent EC Buxton Dyers Chamomile. Fertilised all lavender and the one definitely still alive deck rosemary (*****albiforusous). Brought all the tulips and daff pots back down from the balcony and tucked away. Threw out 2 dead thymes (Silver Posie and Lilac Time) from balcony. Discovered indoor slug been at Kong seedlings. Grr.
Planted up the 2 white obelisks. First year using plastic spacer (from some soup tubs!) at the top to make the obelisks not the teeniest things in the world. They’re still pretty small though! Put huge brick (brick + concrete/render) at bottom of each to try and stop the falling over. Doubtless it will instead mean they still fall over but with such force they smash! ;P Jilly in one and Mrs Collier in the other.
Sowed 1st week of salad square, 2 x salad, 1 x chard 1 x spinach.

Planted up long trough. Turning colder so bit worried how plants may take going straight out there from kitchen. Ended up doubling up end geraniums rather than having them side-by-side. Put close to edge as well to help trailing. Put back nasturtiums to trail inward for interest there too. Potted rudbeckia seedlings up into the pots empty from geraniums. Watered first, dibbed holes then dropped in. 4 of each, 1 per pot with some spares of a few potted up 4 to a larger pot. Left some in original wee cells. Pots into green seed trays then back inside with propagator lids on top.
