wardrobe got ahold of this script and said okay!! Mulder is going to be reckless and selfish this week, but he’s also gonna be hot. (I think a lot of Mulder’s selfishness here is self-loathing mixed with a very misdirected attempt to get answers for Scully because she’s dying, but it’s still selfishness.) wardrobe said we’re going to make this man look so dreamy you believe Scully would spend her last weeks trying to get him out of prison. and it worked.

but the less talked about and in my opinion more iconic fit in demons is Scully’s. arguably her gayest look outside season 1, for starters. this is one of my personal favorites because there is simply no excuse for how well she pulls it off. this outfit should not work on anyone. it’s got an all-beige base (!!), and the pants don’t even fit well. but with those practical boots and the dark coat (and the silhouette of the shoulder pads!) it WORKS. it works on a character level because I believe this woman got dressed in the dark. it works thematically: light and soft and vulnerable inside with a tough shell outside. this is exactly what Scully should be wearing when she spends a Sunday proving her boyfriend did not commit murder, swooping around crime scenes like some kind of avenging angel. and once again it also works on the level of me finding it very hot.

what’s the best piece of advice you ever received? 

best is hard, but probably the advice I think about the most is my 7th grade science teacher telling us to “use the test to take the test.” what she meant was that if we couldn’t figure out an answer on a test, there might be info in other questions that would help. but now I kind of use it as a catch-all for looking at all of my problems at once to see if one of them can help me solve another. sounds very vague when I can’t think of an example but it has helped!

the last big one was when I quit a bad job after two weeks because I hadn’t slept since I started there

10. What song sums up this year for you? Snow globe by Waterparks probably, both because I've been listening to it a lot and because it's a mood

43. What have you learned about yourself this year that you didn’t know in the years prior? This is so difficult I really have no idea... the only thing I can think of is that this year I’ve valued silence so much, and it’s never really been like that before. I used to need background noise to drown out my thoughts (ha) and now I need my home to be silent because otherwise I can’t hear myself think ljksdfjdsk. 

48. If you could go on an adventure during the remaining days of the year, where would you go and what would you do?  Who would you go this? Ooh. I’d probably go skiing!!! I’m going in January and I’m looking forward to it so much, especially with all the snow and cold weather we’ve been having... but I’d like to go to like, the Alps, apart from all the local slopes I’ve only been to the ski resorts in Sweden and Norway where my siblings work. I’d bring my whole family and my best friend lol (she’s not a skier but ONE DAY I’m gonna get her to at least try)

22. Is there anything you regret writing?

(-｡-;) I just finished a previous ask where I mentioned writing RPF, and that’s always a dicey game. I’ve taken fics down before, from my earlier days, but I keep most of it archived. I don’t necessarily regret writing it from the position I was in at the time, but I don’t think it needs to stay published.

Honestly the bigger thing I regret is not writing marginalised characters. My ao3 ships are overwhelmingly white. I’m not as experienced writing characters of colour, and I will always lack the firsthand experience, but I don’t think that’s a good excuse for a prolific fic writer. I can afford to do research, and I will make mistakes, and learn from them. Fandom plays a role in perpetuating discrimination and that won’t change if we don’t start changing what we do. So for me that’s meant a conscious effort at practicing writing characters of colour and treating their narratives with the care and importance they deserve.

31. What’s the nicest thing someone has ever said about your writing?

Oh my god, there have been so many wonderful things! I always want to say the funny ones like ‘I want to print this fic out and eat it’ and ‘This chapter was so tense I put my phone in the freezer,’ but honestly it’s things like ‘this story helped me through something really difficult’ (this happens so much during the pandemic) and ‘I come back to this story so much’ make me incredibly emotional. Knowing that a story can make someone happier, that it stays with them, that’s all any writer wants.

45. What is your all time favourite fanfic?

Oh my god what a hell of a question! The one that springs to mind is: You’ve given me the best of you, but now I need the rest of you by smallobjects. It’s one of those stories where you go ‘oh my god, how did they do that?’

10. do you own any signed books/memorabilia in general?

I have some signed novels. one by gish jen because she did a residency in my fiction class in college. perhaps I have a signed book by david duchovny

19. that book you were forced to read for class but actually ended up enjoying?

it’s not like I went into it kicking and screaming, but I didn’t expect the brothers karamazov to hit me like a ton of bricks

49. what’s something that you don’t have a picture of that you wish you did?

I don’t have pictures in my cap and gown with my family at my college graduation. part of it is that it was a really disorganized mess of a day and I honestly didn’t know I could leave the stadium and take pictures before I returned my cap and gown. but I was also just tired from staying up all night (and most of the week) and I was moody and sad about graduating, even though I knew that was the wrong attitude. I was more focused on saying goodbye to my friends than I was on thanking my family. and now we don’t have those pictures, and every time I think about it I remember that I’m a fundamentally selfish person, and I still feel bad about it

3. your favorite “grounding” activity (anything that involves using the hands/doesn’t involve “spacing out” or escapism - something like gardening, knitting, dancing, cooking)

the thing I do the most is get out my colored pencils and sketch. I’m only decent even though I used to think I was better, so it doubles as the inherent therapy of letting myself just be decent at something! with mixed results.

5. 5 tv shows that cheer you up

ohhh well sometimes very bleak shows make me feel better but I’m gonna take those out of contention and say: the x-files, parks and rec, schitt’s creek, superstore, bones lol
