In the tafseer of Imam Ibn Kathir rahimahullah, he wrote that Ibn Abbas radi Allahu 'anhu said:
❛When the people are gathering in darkness (in the hereafter), Allah will send light; and when the believers see the light they will march towards it. This light will be their guide from Allah, to Jannah.
When the hypocrites see the believers following the light, they will follow them. But Allah will extinguish the light for the hypocrites, so they will say (to the believers): “Wait for us! Let us get something from your light!"
🌟 It will be said: "Go back to your rear! Then seek a light!" So a wall will be put up between them, with a gate therein. Inside it will be mercy, and outside it will be torment. [Surah al-Hadid 57 :13]❜
The hypocrites will be told: Go back and find a light. Most scholars said that it means: Go back to the dunya (which is impossible), and try to kindle your light there.
They will plead: Give us something, anything, from the light. But even the tiniest spark will be denied for them.
We kindle our light for the hereafter in this dunya. If we don’t work for our hereafter now, we will be caught in total darkness. And that tiny spark that we're neglecting right now would have been such a blessing, such an important resource in the akhirah.
As Ramadan has left us, and we're back to our normal routine, it's important to catch whenever we regress to any of our old bad habits.
- How is the state of my salaah? Are they on time? - How much of the sunnah of Rasulullah salla Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam am I following? - How is my temperament? Am I still prone to unnecessary anger? - Am I observing my hijaab correctly? - Have I started gossiping / using foul language again?
Ask ourselves: What can I do to make my spark brighter?
