A post-mortem of anagnorisis
[The result of the game]
The success and ideas that anagnorisis were conceived on failed to generate the results I hoped.
Though a game, and was positively received from others, the overall state of the game remained unfinished, unpolished and lacks any of the substance that I wanted within.
This concept of game rather than a full game looked in my personal eyes as a tech-demo of what a game embodying the concepts of time and illusions.
[The premise]
Starting with the main aspects time and illusions. The whole premise of the game and the name were brought on the idea of lack of knowledge and the change in perspective after such knowledge. Illusions perfectly fit that premise as illusions are something fake and once uncovered will result in them realising that they were ignorant. Time may not fit within such a premise but I thought for the game to be enjoyable needed a mechanic that allows players to do puzzles and avoid enemies due to the lack of combat.
[The result]
On the actual showcasing of the game, what I believe is the biggest issue is the time and priority for the game. I went into the idea with big ambitions and such created my own sprites which ignorant to creating sprite animations and games turned out to be very time consuming. Thus it led to an unfinished, unpolished mess that was the final product due to wastage of time. The main mechanics were left bare and was not developed enough, the levels were small and not interesting and there was a lack of sounds.
In terms of illustrations and world however, due to the lack of technical functions and the priorities being within sprites and looks, the game was visually appealing. It can rival full fledged games with just the looks, a screenshot can showcase the illusion that the game is a high quality game.
[overall]
Overall anagnorisis is a failed project within the time frame of 5 weeks. It failed due to lack of time and misplaced priorities, and the result was an unfinished game that looked pretty. If given time this game will eventually become a wonderful game.
