Have you e-hugged a fanfic writer/artist today?
I hear itâs good for your health - much better for all concerned than namelessly pouring bile over your keyboard.
You know what I love about Tumblr? I can post stuff. I can post stuff that people like. I can post stuff I hope people will love to share their opinion of â with me sometimes too.
What I also love, is that in posting the stuff I love to write, those who choose to engage with me, say hi, drop me a line, leave me a note, go on to become really good friends.
People who I appreciate.
People who I trust.
People with whom I frequently reciprocate because they have earned it.
People who know that just because one can say something, doesnât mean they should.
There are a lot of people hurting in the world right now, at our own level, myself included. I donât want sympathy, I get plenty of love and care from those who have earned my love and respect and vice versa. Keep that in mind next time you feel like something is unfair.
So, the next time you consider being a coward - being spiteful to someone you donât know - petty to a stranger â hiding behind anonymity to speak ill of, or to someone youâve never given anything to yourself (like a âhelloâ, or, âhave a moment to chat?â), ask yourselfâŚ
What it is youâre looking for?
Will your current approach achieve it, or will it simply get your notes/comments/anon rubbish deleted and laughed about by the person you sent it to and the people you could have been friends with? <<< This is happening right now.
Go ahead and refuse to appreciate or show gratitude for people in your particular fandom who give of themselves for nothing in return â desiring a little tick of approval doesnât make a person greedy, gluttonous or narcissistic, any more than sending poorly articulated and nasty anonymous messages makes a person clever, witty or ultimately, happy.
Why writers and artists ask for feedback, is because silence can turn a community inward â we share with those who we can rely on to give back, just as we give to them, and letâs face it, with the haters hating, who can really blame us?
Want in on the fun? Hm, well, I hate assholes, so being one probably isnât going to work, but I totally welcome friendly and polite folk who like to get to know me and my friends. I know my Tumblr friends are of the same opinion, or they wouldnât be my friends.
So, commenting on and reblogging posts helps keep the fanfiction coming
Messages wider our circle of fandom friendship.
