Between the Snark and Shame
Would you, if I asked, use that nickname again? I’m not building foundations; I live in the wind. Don’t go praising a movement which ceases to end, Bouncing me ‘cross the halls already decked Buried under the boxes checked and ticked Off the list of the options I’ve already picked.
There’s an excess to the atmosphere I build around my laugh. It’s the focal point that clarifies every triumph and gaffe. It’s the feeling that I’m losing someone whom I’ve never had. It’s the hairsbreadth line dividing going out and going mad.
And I don’t think I can sing this song; Between the snark and shame it just comes out wrong. Inside this rhyme I say I’m not strong, Between the snark and shame it seems you might play along.
There’s an echo of fingertips tracing pressure points. There’s a trumpet and white flag powering my joints. And should the reason to move be something in between Could I muster the breaths to fuel the fire Without blowing out every torch and tire, Lost somewhere in a ditch covered in kerosene?
There’s a certainty to rejection that soothes as well as sours. It retards the third and fourth guessing for maybe a few hours. There’s a thought that soaring skyward mirrors burrowing through ground When the hills may as well just be valleys hanging upside-down. And I don’t know if this makes much sense; Between the snark and shame it all comes out tense. Within your ears, is it all defense? Between the snark and shame do I only have pretense?
