"Sir." The mans face was pinched, as if such a simple word caused him pain to say. He offered a glass and Killian took it with amusement. He didn't particularly understand their customs, nor did he particularly like them, but he participated the best he knew how. The servants scurried around them, ducking their heads and refusing to make eye contact like they were afraid Killian was going to eat them if they annoyed him. They probably were, given the rumors Killian had heard.

"To good health, a prosperous relations." The man who had served him said, raising a glass of his own. The last of the servants hurried out, letting the door fall shut behind them, and Killian was alone with his host. A duke, which he was assured was a significant title. Then again, the duke had been the one assuring him, so he couldn't be sure. It sounded a bit like a clan representative to him, except this man ruled for his whole life. And he ruled the port, which was why they sat drinking now.

Killian nodded his head, knocking back his drink. Across from him, he could almost feel the distain radiating off the other man. Killian couldn't find it in himself to be sorry for what the duke referred to as, "a significant lack of manners." Surely drinking quickly was a sign that the drink was good, was it not?

"As you are aware," the man across from him was saying. "There is the issue of your ships. They swarm our harbor in the summer and while I don't deny they bring good wears, the overabundance of your people threatens the health of our community. Are you quite sure we couldn't be allowed to bring trade to your ports instead?"

Killian shook his head, starling a little as the world spun when he did. How strong was this drink?
