Why do I paint you to be someone I want you to be? 

Why don’t I accept you for who you really are? 

I get that love is a strong feeling to have for someone and it can make you say and do things you would not typically do. I get that, I really do because I have been there. I have made a million and one excuses for someone because I didn’t want him to be that person. I had higher expectations for him than he had for himself. 

What I want to know is why people don’t see how unhealthy that can be. 

We weren’t brought on this earth to paint a person to be someone they aren’t. How will anyone grow if you accept their bad/toxic behavior? 

I have been that girl that accepted the bad behavior because I thought it was what you did when you loved someone. I wanted to be so loyal and forgiving that I lost myself and what a healthy love was. 

I am not even sure I knew what a healthy love was. I thought being there for him through thick and thin would show that him my value, but it didn’t. What it did was show him that I was a doormat and he could do whatever he wanted because I would forgive him and I would believe whatever he told me.

I was naive, I was inexperienced. 

Years later I see how unhealthy it was and how I deserved a million times the love I received in return. I will never be someone’s doormat again. 

Being there for someone while they do you dirty time and time again isn’t what anyone should want and it isn’t something to allow. That isn’t loyalty, but an unhealthy way to look at love. 

Love requires loyalty and respect. 

Love requires support. 

A healthy love is never one sided and it requires work from both parties. 

Who you see with eyes of love may not be the person they are if you do not have a healthy understanding of what love should be. 

Don’t sell yourself short. Love is an amazing thing when it’s with the right person.
