#poor witches

I've been feeling better lately, been meditating and doing yoga and we were able to get a new cat (who's presence has really helped--I just hadn't been right since we lost my 14 year old cat four years ago).

Okay, so this is a much-needed clapback at someone who commented on a recent post of mine with “Real Witches don’t shop at fucking Walmart”. I’m not going to even address the faulty start of the phrase ‘real witches...’ 

But let me explain what can be found at Walmart for my friend stuck in the dark  ages of elitism and “I only shop at exotic witch shops for everything in my life.”

Candles

Tea lights

Essential oil diffusers

Wax warmers

Himalayan Salt Lamps

COURSE SEA-SALT!

The entire Garden Center for all your witchy garden needs

Mirrors

Sketchbooks for mere dollars make great Grimoires

The entire craft department for you know... witchCRAFT

Glass jars and bottles in their kitchen section and their craft section

Pins, fabric, stuffing, thread, and needles to make poppets

Shelving for your hundreds of witchbottles and potion bottles and herbs

Shelving for all your books on magick

Awesome pillows/boho decor/curtains for your sacred spaces

Wooden boxes to woodburn, stain, or paint for witchy materials

I honestly could go on and on. You know why? Because most witches were NEVER rich. They lived in cottages, because people didn’t pay for their services in gold. They paid how they could. And witches were never elitist... they used what was available. Well you know what is available to MOST witches today? That’s right - WAL-MART. So, take your elitist shit, and go spend hundreds of dollars for things we can conveniently find at the local superstore for less than $20.

But I know I want to find ways to do magick that are very low cost and free for witches who can’t even afford a shoestring because all their other expenses like bills and food take up all their funds.

For instance, how about a mixture of salt (sea or otherwise) and ground sage that you probably have in your spice cupboard or find in the spice aisle of any grocery store. You can can just sneak that in with your other purchases if you’re on food stamps or WIC or something like that. AND it does double duty because you can also use those spices for cooking.

Anyway, salt and ground sage, you can sprinkle it around for cleansing and blessing. I just sprinkled it around my backyard while saying a prayer to the Goddess and I felt like I was really accomplishing something.

So look for alternatives, get creative. Magick doesn’t need to cost you anything, if you don’t let it. Deborah Blake says in her book “Witchcraft on a Shoestring” that all you really need is belief, will and focus.

But even some of the optional extras she suggests are beyond my budget so that’s why I want to find even less expensive alternatives.

I currently live with my mother and an not working. I’m trying to find a job but I have problems with anxiety and it’s hard to be around so many people. My mother doesn’t work either, she’s on social security-disability and food stamps. Mind, we might lose the food stamps because Grandpa passed away recently and she might get some inheritance. Long story--don’t get me started.

So anyway, I literally have zero dollars of my own, unless my dad sends some pocket money every once in a while. Damned anxiety...sorry, I got off topic. Where was I?
