In my headcanon and the Incredibox × JS&B AU that I'm brewing, Capitan has a "lucky coin" which he always bring with him on his journeys. The origin of the coin was said to date back at least a century ago and is no longer valid to current day's currency system. His crew makes up all kinds of theories and assumptions about the meaning of the coin, but none have guessed it right so far.
It is actually Capitan's first time earning money from diligence and hard work after he had stepped out from his criminalistic past, thanks to Siren's guidance. He still keeps the coin to remind him of how far he has progressed on his journey of becoming better and more righteous as a person.
