Chapter 15 ⋆⭒˚.⋆

Noah: I'm gonna ask her out. She probably doesn't know the town yet, and definitely not any of the cool places around here. Julian: Wouldn't it make more sense to actually get to know her first before asking her out? I don't know... maybe talk to her, welcome her to school, something... normal? Noah: Bro, obviously I'm gonna talk to her and ask her stuff. Who do you think I am? Besides, girls like a guy who knows what he wants [grins] Principal Stevens: You two seem awfully entertained this morning... Noah: Ah, crap... Principal Stevens: And what do we say, Mr. Reilly? Noah: She's standing right behind me, isn't she? Is she giving me the look? Julian: Yup... [sighs] Principal Stevens: [clears her throat] My office. Now, Mr. Reilly. Noah: Does it have to be right now? I was really looking forward to class. Principal Stevens: Now. Noah: [sighs] Why is the universe always against me?

The obvious out of the way - Bella was dying. She wanted to leave life without pain, on her own terms. Hannibal saving her was cruel, it wasn’t mercy it wasn’t kindness to her. Saving her was the worse option of the two choices.

Hannibal didn’t really have anything to gain by saving Bella - he didn’t care about Jack or her enough to be bothered and gaining Jacks trust by saving her is a pretty minor benefit. But Hannibal also didn’t really get anything by letting her die - Jack might get destroyed emotionally and get more floppy in his investigation into the Ripper but that is also pretty minor. Hannibal can handle Jack at his best, he doesn’t really need him to be at his worst. And saving Bella but making her die slowly from cancer wouldn’t really bring Hannibal any satisfaction either - he’s not a sadist, he doesn’t hate her and her death wouldn’t be art.

So Hannibal decided her fate with a flip of a coin.

By normal people standards it’s pretty messed up to decide if someone lives or dies like that. But more importantly it’s also very out of character for Hannibal. Hannibal is not someone who likes leaving things up to fate, he seeks complete control over everything so him willingly giving up control over something, even something pretty inconsequential is odd.

The way I see it is that at this point Hannibal realises he misses Will.

"I am telling you RIGHT NOW... that sim right there is NOT REAL!"

Nervous laughter. I do believe she is trying to make light of it but there is some...bitterness.
