I Have a hankering for the specific flavour of fantasy where two close friends with a ruler/servant power imbalance have until this point been able to exist for the most part blissfully wiht each other but the higher authority one is making decisions or complying with decisions that are a huge no for the other friends and relevant people (like going to needless war or increasing exploitation or something) but the powerful friend is still incapable of seeing the issue in these choices so the lower friend/s go all cold shoulder aside from obligatory order-following because they cant continue to hold the other friend close if the other friend refuses to see the rift between themselves and everyone else so the higher friend is gradually coming into a crisis of “what did I do???” if you get what I mean
