In which the Spicy Eight live together is Steve’s house, which was abandoned by his parents. They're on the verge of just straight up being a polyglot. Platonically for some of them.
Eddie and Robin burst through the door of Steve’s house. . .well, their house now with piles of groceries in their arms.
Eddie: The only brightside to this day was being asked to be a prostitute.
Robin: Well, that's something to cling to.
Steve: *exiting the kitchen* What's going on?
Nancy walked in behind them.
Nancy: I wasn't calling you a prostitute, Eddie, I was just saying that you could be one if you wanted to.
Steve: What?!
Eddie: All I'm hearing is that you want to hire me as a prostitute, Wheeler.
Nancy: *blushing* What? No!
Eddie: Am I or am I not attractive enough to be a prostitute?
Steve: Oh, you're definitely attractive enough.
Eddie: See? Your boyfriend is not afraid to admit it - wait, what?
Chrissy came in with her cousin, Vickie, carrying the last of the groceries.
Chrissy: Oh my god, are you still on this? Yes, babe, you're hot to everyone except Robin and Vickie.
Jonathan and Argyle came out from helping Steve in the kitchen.
"Yeah, I'm just a little nervous about you being behind the wheel, Eddie," Robin said.
"Oh, I'm not going to drive her. I'm just starting this baby up," Eddie grinned. "Harrington's got her, don't ya, big boy?"
Eddie was already so close to him, his lips near his cheek. Steve frowned. God. Was Eddie flirting with him? This didn't seem very fair. Eddie gets accused of murder, gets thrown into all of this, and now Steve has to reject him because he didn't like boys. Although, he appreciated the attention and the way he had slammed him up against the wall. . .It also wasn't hard to notice the way Eddie looked at him when he took his shirt off. Poor guy. Steve turned his head and was about to open his mouth when Robin moved. She tripped, falling onto Steve’s back. In the process, it caused Steve to fall into Eddie, their lips bumping against each other's.
"Oh, shit, I'm so sorry!" Robin gasped.
"I guess I can cross that off my bucket list," Eddie said with a grin and winked at Steve.
Before anyone could say anything else, the owners of the RV tried to get in. Steve did it without thinking. They needed to switch spots and quickly, too. Steve patted him on his backside to get him out and rushed to replace him. He took off. The entire way to the War Zone, all Steve could think about was kissing Eddie. . .his hand brushing up against his backside just then. . .the hand pressed against the small of his back when they were walking in the Upside Down. . .the way he liked it when Eddie leaned in. He still tried to process it all when they got to the War Zone and even after in the clearing when he was making molotov cocktails with Robin.
"Hey. . .Robin, do you think maybe you can push me into Eddie again later?" Steve asked.
"What? Why?" Robin asked in disbelief.
"I need to test a theory," Steve said, his chest growing warm at the sight of Eddie with Dustin.
"What's the theory?" She asked.
"I like a boy," Steve said as he continued to gaze at Eddie.
"Oh my god!" Robin exclaimed as she nearly dropped the molotov. "You like Eddie!"
Robin slapped a hand over her mouth, her eyes wide. Steve grinned. He couldn't help it. . .her expression was so comical. He couldn't be mad at her. Judging by the way everyone's head had snapped in their direction, they heard Robin.
"I told you! I knew you would like him!" Dustin shrieked. "Didn't I say that Steve would like him, Lucas?"
"Yeah, man," Lucas said in amusement. "You called it."
Steve smiled and shook his head. Once again, Dustin was missing an important part of what had just happened.
"I just don't know why Robin was so surprised," Dustin said.
"I like you, too, big boy!" Eddie yelled, winking at him again, and Steve blushed.
Robin leaned closer to Steve, smirking as she lowered her voice.
"Theory proven. Steve Harrington likes a boy," Robin said.
"It seems like the worst possible time to realize this," Steve said.
"If not now, then when?" She asked, and then she squealed as she leaned against him. "Neither one of us is straight! This is great! Ooh, I rhymed."
"Settle down, Buckley," Steve said, his eyes twinkling with mirth.
"You should do something about it," Robin whispered.
"I don't know," Steve said, glancing at Nancy. "There's still something there, too."
"We live on a gate to hell, Steve," Robin said. "I think it's okay to like both of them. Anything is possible."
"I think I'm going inside for a bit," Steve said.
"Okay, well, I'm here if you want to talk some more or freak out about it," Robin said.
Steve smiled at her, grateful to her before heading into the RV. He closed the door and sighed. It was all such a great distraction, but it was only momentarily. The pain was very much there. Steve shrugged out of his new jacket and camouflage shirt. He didn't have any time to change his bandages at the War Zone. He had to figure out how to change the bandages, but how could he possibly get the ones on his back and arms? Steve grabbed the first aid kid and started peeling Nancy's piece of torn shirt off of his stomach. Steve cried out in pain and wept harder at the wounds in his stomach. His flesh had been torn away and devoured. . .He could feel the road rash on his back and arms. It felt as though he had been kissed by fire. He tried to keep it all together, tried not to let anyone know how much pain he was in. . .the mission was too important. Steve collapsed on the floor and fell onto his knees. He tried to focus on what he was feeling emotionally. . .Eddie or Nancy? The door to the RV opened, and he jerked at the sound of their voices. . .Jesus, did they hear what he was thinking?
"Steve!" Eddie and Nancy yelled.
The door closed behind them as they rushed to his side.
"I was just trying to change my bandages," Steve groaned.
They quickly helped sit him up, and Nancy immediately started unraveling the bandages.
"Shit, these need to be cleaned," Eddie cursed.
"Oh, Steve, why didn't you tell us you were in this much pain?" Nancy asked.
"I didn't want to be a distraction," Steve said.
"You had no problem being a distraction when you ripped off your sweater, flashing Nancy and I your tits," Eddie grinned, and Nancy giggled.
"You know what I mean, asshole," Steve laughed. "I just - ,"
"You're not a burden. We know about this. You're important, and not just to the mission," Nancy said softly. "To all of us."
Steve smiled at her. Nancy and Eddie went to work cleaning his wounds.
"I'm just wondering how you expected to get the ones on your back? You would have had to twist yourself like a pretzel," Eddie said. "Mm, pretzels."
"Hey, I've got moves," Steve protested.
"He's a ninja," Nancy teased.
"Sounds like an inside joke," Eddie said.
"The first time he snuck into my room, he landed awkwardly, got up, and proudly declared himself a ninja," Nancy said.
"Sounds adorable," Eddie grinned, flashing his dimples as he looked softly at Steve.
"It really was," Nancy said fondly.
"So, letting me in on this, and letting me feel you up - ," Eddie said.
"You're bandaging my wounds," Steve said.
"Do I or do I not have my hands all over you?" Eddie asked.
"Well, then I guess that means Nancy's feeling me up," Steve said.
"I'm not going to lie, Steve," Nancy said seriously, and Eddie laughed.
"I guess that means we're friends now," Eddie said.
"No," Steve said quickly, and Eddie frowned. "I mean, yes. . .I like you, Eddie."
"I like you, too. What's the problem?" He asked.
"No, I like you," Steve said.
"Okay. . .you said like differently that time. What are you trying to imply here?" Eddie asked.
"I like-like you, Eddie," he said.
"Okay, so you really like me," he said. "So, why can't we be friends?"
"I'm romantically and sexually attracted to you," Steve replied with a loud sigh.
"What! But Nancy - ," Eddie said with wide eyes. "I thought - ,"
"Oh, no, I'm still very much in love with her," Steve said. "So, yeah, all very confusing. . .although, I guess not, really. I definitely have a type. . .nerds with big hair and big eyes that make you fall for them."
Nancy laughed.
"Now that I'm thinking about it, I definitely think you were crushing on Tom Cruise just as much as I was," Nancy said.
"Shit, I think you're right. I've never been straight," Steve said, laughing.
"What? Did you think I turned you queer?" Eddie asked.
"Like magic," Steve said with a goofy grin.
Eddie and Nancy laughed as they finished wrapping up Steve. They helped him up off the floor before helping him back into his shirt and jacket.
"You're good to go, bug boy," Eddie said, his hand caressing Steve’s collar. "I mean, big boy - fuck, I meant, well, you know what I meant."
"I just want you to know that you don't have to do anything about this or feel like you have to. . .I just thought I should be honest. I was just completely honest with myself, and I wanted to do the same with you guys," Steve said. "You both have inspired me to be myself and realize what's important. Eddie, more recently, and Nancy, well, back then, she gave me the bump on the head that I needed to see what it truly means to be a friend. I mean, I know that I'm slow, but I learn. . .according to my mother, I used to crawl backwards, I went so far backward that I ended up falling down the stairs. Eventually, I do move forward. So, I'll be okay."
Eddie smiled sweetly at him, playing with the collar of Steve’s jacket. Nancy placed a hand on Steve’s arm, also smiling at him.
"So, in that dream of yours. . .," Nancy said.
"With his six little chicken nuggets," Eddie said in amusement.
"Were you serious about that?" Nancy asked.
"I meant every word," Steve said to Nancy. "Left out an important part, though. . .the most important part. . .you were there. . .you've always been there."
Eddie wrapped an arm around Steve’s shoulder, leaning in close to him.
"I know that we've just started getting to know each other. . .," Eddie trailed off.
"There's room in the RV. . .hm, I could use some convincing, though," Steve smirked.
Eddie leaned forward and kissed him. Steve smiled against his lips as he returned the kiss, placing his hand against the small of Eddie's back. Eddie ran his tongue over the bottom of Steve’s lip, and Steve opened his mouth with a gasp, letting Eddie slip his tongue inside. Suddenly, Eddie pulled back.
"That's what you meant by convincing you. . .right?" Eddie asked and Steve laughed.
"Yeah, Eddie, that's what I meant," Steve said.
"I think I'm definitely going to need some convincing," Nancy said, her cheeks red.
"You are?" Eddie asked.
"Well, Steve wanted me in the RV first," Nancy smirked.
"Trying to make this into a competition, Wheeler?" Eddie asked.
"What if I am, Munson?" Nancy asked as she stared directly into his eyes.
Eddie grinned and pulled her flush against him. They each kept a hand on Steve while they held onto each other. Eddie pressed his lips to Nancy's, smirking into the kiss. Steve felt the warmth inside his stomach grow stronger at the sight of them. He should have been jealous, but there was no jealousy here, only longing for the both of them. Their hands clutched each of his shoulders tightly as Nancy deepened the kiss. Nancy and Eddie's hands slid into the hair at the nape of Steve’s neck. Steve moaned softly as he felt them gently tug at it. Eddie pulled away with a gasp.
"Is that enough to convince you, or do you need more?" Eddie asked.
"I think we've both been convinced," Nancy laughed as she looked at Steve's face. "Haven't we?"
"Yeah, definitely," Steve said.
Nancy touched Steve’s face gently and kissed him. It was sweet and soft until Nancy pressed her lips further against his, eager to taste him again. God, how he missed her lips and the way she gently touched his face. He wanted to keep kissing her, but his head was starting to spin. He broke the kiss.
"What's wrong?" Nancy asked.
"I feel a little dizzy," Steve said. "I think I need to sit down."
Nancy and Eddie guided him to the couch. Steve couldn't remember the last time he had eaten, so Eddie quickly found a can of Spaghetti-os and a bottle of water. It wasn't the best, but it made Steve feel better. Yeah, it wasn't a good idea to forget to eat after losing all that blood, Steve thought as he scooped food into his mouth.
"You feeling better?" Nancy asked after he finished and set the empty can aside.
"Definitely," Steve said.
"I should have gotten you some food. . .I didn't think about the blood loss," Nancy frowned.
"Hey, I didn't think about it either," Steve said. "Don't beat yourself up."
"Honestly, I thought you were getting dizzy because of us, and I felt cocky for a moment," Eddie smirked.
"Hm, well, maybe a little," Steve grinned.
Nancy ran her fingers through Steve’s hair, looking at him fondly.
"I almost lost you," Nancy said.
"Eddie said that you didn't hesitate at all to jump in after me," Steve said. "Said it was. . .an unambiguous sign of true love."
"Well, he was right about that," Nancy said with a smile as she continued to stroke his hair. "I couldn't lose you. I spent a lot of time letting other people get in my head. . .as much as I try to tell myself that I don't care what others think, I do. I spent a lot of time letting those voices convince me that I was going to end up in a nuclear loveless family. I was so afraid of that happening. . .that I let it happen. Our relationship was wonderful, and I loved every minute of it. . .the one thing that got in my way was myself and the fact that those assholes got away with killing Barb. When you got yanked underneath the water, when the bats came after, I just couldn't you go. . .I realized that it was always you, Steve. So, yeah, I love you."
"I love you, too," Steve said.
Nancy leaned forward and kissed him, tucking a hair behind his ear. She broke the kiss and leaned her forehead against Steve’s.
"I am not quite there yet," Eddie said, grinning. "But I feel a great deal of affection for the both of you."
"There's no pressure, Eddie," Steve laughed.
"You know, I kind of like that you both are further along in this relationship than I am. It's almost like you two are the dungeon masters and I'm the player. . .," Eddie frowned. "I think I just turned myself on."
"I wouldn't even know how to be a dungeon master," Steve said.
"I'll show you," Nancy grinned. "It's not that different from leading a basketball team."
"You take that back, Wheeler," Eddie gasped.
"No!" Nancy laughed.
Eddie leaned back and crossed his arms, fake pouting. Steve and Nancy stared at him, watching the sun begin to sink down. . .a reminder for all of them that their mission to take down Vecna would soon begin. Eddie's face turned serious.
"You might be onto something. . .I kind of wish that I had gone to the game. Wish I had been more accommodating to Lucas, let him know that he wasn't turning to the dark side. . .it was a shitty thing to do. I think I was so afraid of forced conformity that I ended up feeling like Lucas had to choose one or the other when he didn't have to. As the leader of Hellfire, I was responsible for giving those kids a safe place for them to share their interests even if they didn't align with mine," Eddie said.
"Yeah, I think we were both afraid of forced conformity," Nancy said as she twirled a lock of Steve’s hair between her fingers.
"Hey, man, Lucas knows you didn't intend to be an asshole about it," Steve said. "He knows how protective you are of the game. As much as I tried to talk about it with him, Lucas just wanted the bullying to stop, and he still wanted to hang on to the game. You just don't know how much harder it is for him."
"Yeah," Eddie winced. "Jeff pointed that out as a possibility when I was complaining about it."
"He sees what kind of person Jason is now, though," Steve said. "And he also knows that he was wrong, too. . .which I think is something that you two really need to talk about."
"Yeah," Eddie agreed.
Steve could feel Nancy's eyes on both of them.
"Boys," she sighed happily.
"Aren't you glad Robin pushed me into Eddie's lips?" Steve asked.
"What?" She laughed.
"You didn't see that earlier? Eddie was getting the RV started up, and Robin tripped, causing my lips to meet with Eddie's," Steve said.
"Is that what made you realize you liked me?" Eddie asked, laughing.
"Yeah, I totally wanted to kiss you again," Steve said. "What made you realize that you liked me?"
"When you ripped off your shirt like a fucking stripper," Eddie said rolling his eyes. "You know you look good, asshole. It was the wrong fucking time to have a sexuality crisis and you gave it to me. Between you and Nancy. . .watching her swing that oar around like a sword. . .yeah, I definitely still liked women. So, thank you, you guys gave me a lot to panic about."
"You're welcome," Nancy and Steve said in amusement.
"The moment I realized I liked both of you, actually isn't that much different," Nancy said in amusement. "I both caught you with romance novels. . .of course, it was a long time ago with Steve and earlier this year with Eddie."
"Really?!" They asked, and they looked at each other. "You?!"
"I don't know why you're so surprised," Steve scoffed, raising an eyebrow at Eddie. "You heard about my dream. . .of course, I'm a romantic. I don't know why I'm surprised about you. . .cynical, my ass, of course you're a romantic. . .unambiguous sign of true love."
"I am never going to live that down," Eddie groaned and threw up his hands. "Okay! Jesus H Christ, I love love!"
"I think it's sweet," Nancy smiled. "Now, more than ever, we need to believe in love. Whether it's familial, romantic, or strictly platonic."
"Like me and Robin," Steve said with a goofy grin. "Platonic with a - "
" - capital p!" Nancy and Eddie exclaimed.
"Yes, we know," Nancy said. "It's strictly platonic with me and Robin, too. I definitely love her."
"Oh me, too!" Eddie exclaimed.
"Yeah, she's great," Steve grinned and then frowned. "But there's no one like me and Robin. . .I found her first."
"Of course," Nancy giggled.
Steve leaned back against the couch, smiling at the both of them. Eddie and Nancy were talking over him now, their hands over his knees. They were discussing the things to come, Vecna, and what had already happened. Steve listened to them both as Eddie talked about his guilt over Chrissy's death, his feelings, while Nancy did the same about her own guilt over Barb's death and how she had felt about Barb. Steve placed a hand over Nancy's and Eddie's back. They leaned into his touch, letting him know that they appreciated his silent reassurance. Whatever happened, they were going to get through it together.
Eddie and Chrissy look down at a sleeping Steve between them. He stirs, opens his eyes, smiles, and then frowns.
Steve: Is everything okay?
Chrissy: We were just wondering. . .
Eddie: . . .you still like us, right?
Steve: I love you. . .always.
Chrissy: What if we got turned into worms?
Steve: Then I would get a leather pouch to carry you guys in and keep it close to my heart.
Chrissy: Aww. . .
Eddie: You wouldn't be able to fuck us, though.
Steve: I'd be sad about that, but I'd learn to live with it.
Eddie: What if one of us accidentally falls out of the pouch and you accidentally step on us?
Steve: Oh my god, Eddie, I love you, but it's three in the morning. . .go to sleep, baby.
Eddie plopped down next to him, curling up against him like Chrissy just did. Steve sighed and closed his eyes. It wasn't long before his eyes snapped open.
Steve: Goddamnit, now I'm thinking about it. Would you guys still love me if I was a worm?
Eddie and Chrissy: No.
Steve: Hey!
Chrissy: *giggling* Yeah, we would still love you. . .now, go to sleep.

Eddie tiptoed into his bedroom and pressed a finger to his lips. Chrissy was fast asleep, curled up on the other side of the bed.
"Are you sure she'll be okay with this?" Steve asked.
"Of course, your parents are home. Chrissy understands that more than anyone. Why do you think she's here so much?" Eddie whispered.
"Because she's your girlfriend, and she likes spending time with you?" Steve asked.
"Well, that, too," Eddie grinned. "According to her, it's a thousand times better here than her house."
"I agree," he whispered.
"Thank God, we have a house now instead of that tiny ass trailer. Doubt we could have fit all of us," Eddie said.
Eddie slid into the bed behind Chrissy and patted the empty spot next to him. Steve crawled in behind him and let Eddie throw the covers over them.
"Goodnight, and thank you for letting me stay here," Steve said.
"Anytime, big boy," Eddie said.
It was early in the morning when Chrissy woke before anyone else. She smiled at Eddie, his face pressed to the pillow. She always loved watching him sleep. His arm was thrown over her, and she touched it, her hand trailing upward until it came into contact with the arm that was wrapped around Eddie. Chrissy frowned. That was NOT her arm. She looked over Eddie and found Steve sleeping on the other side of him. She grinned and tapped Eddie's face. He woke up and smiled.
"Hey, gorgeous," Eddie said.
"Steve is sleeping in our bed," Chrissy said.
"Oh, uh, yeah, his parents are home, and he didn't have anywhere else to go," Eddie whispered.
"Good call," Chrissy smiled.
"Chrissy. . .," Eddie trailed off and paused.
"What is it?" She asked.
"Can we keep him?" He asked, his big brown eyes wider than ever before. "Pleeasse?"
Chrissy couldn't stop the laugh that escaped her. He was just too damn cute. They both were. Steve snorted awake and glanced at Chrissy.
"Oh, good morning," Steve said, his cheeks turning red.
"I have to go to the bathroom," she said.
She leaned forward and gave Eddie a kiss on the lips before doing the same with Steve. She went into Eddie's ensuite bathroom, closing the door behind her.
"Does that mean we can keep him?!" Eddie yelled.
"Yeah!" She yelled back. "But he's not a dog, Eddie!"
"Tell that to his fucking eyes, babe," Eddie said and she giggled.
"You want to keep me?" Steve asked in soft voice.
Chrissy washed her hands and hopped out of the bathroom. She jumped onto the bed and straddled Steve’s hips.
"We're definitely keeping you," Chrissy said.
She started placing kisses all over his face. Eddie cackled gleefully and joined in, causing Steve to giggle. After showering him with kisses, Chrissy snuggled in between her two men, ready to get some more sleep. It was still rather early.
The next time Chrissy and Eddie woke up, it was to the smell of bacon. Steve was no longer in the bed with them. They quickly scrambled out of bed and went to the kitchen where Steve was cooking breakfast. Wayne was sitting at the table, sipping a cup of coffee and reading a gardening magazine.
"Is Steve planning on moving in, too?" Wayne asked.
"Moving in?" Eddie and Chrissy asked.
"Darling, when was the last time you were at your parents' house?" Wayne asked Chrissy.
"Oh. . .well, I guess it's been a while," Chrissy said with a frown.
"I was gonna tell you," Wayne said and put down the magazine. "The other day, your parents came back and dropped off a box with the rest of your stuff. I just didn't know how to break it to you, that they didn't want to see you."
"Oh. . .that's okay, Wayne," Chrissy said and paused. "I'm actually relieved. I didn't want to see them either. I know now where I'm actually wanted. I just hope you don't have a problem with it."
"Not all, sweetheart, you're definitely wanted around here," Wayne said. "Steve, too. We got plenty of room now to figure it all out."
"Look at you, Uncle Wayne," Eddie grinned. "At least I know where I get my whole collecting lost sheep thing from."
"Did he just call us sheep?" Steve asked.
"It's a compliment, sheep are cute," Chrissy said.
"They are fluffy," Steve grinned and ran a hand through his hair.
Chrissy moved over and hugged Wayne before kissing his cheek.
"Thank you, Wayne," she said.
"You and Steve make my boy here very happy," Wayne said. "You're both great kids. I'm happy to have you guys here."
Eddie placed an obnoxiously loud kiss right on Wayne's bald spot.
"You old softie," Eddie said.
He gestured for Chrissy to sit down at the table, and then he fixed them both a cup before joining his uncle.
"Admit it, Wayne," Steve said with a grin. "You just want me and Chrissy around because we both know how to cook."
"Aw, hell, you got me," Wayne said sarcastically.
"I knew it," Steve said seriously.
They all laughed as Steve handed out plates, and they settled down to a nice breakfast. Eddie and Chrissy kissed him both, thanking Steve for the delicious meal. Steve gave a crooked smile, blushing as they all ate in a comfortable silence. After breakfast, Wayne insisted on cleaning up, putting his foot down when Chrissy tried to help. He kissed all three of his kids' foreheads and ushered them out of the house so they could enjoy the morning. It was a completely different porch, nice and wide, but Eddie still insisted on keeping a couch out there. It was a nice idea, Chrissy thought as she curled up on the couch with them, and they all drank their second cup of coffee.
"This is nice," Steve said as he breathed in the fresh air and the other two hummed in agreement.
They watched the house across from them. Max insisted on still being across the Munsons, claiming them to be alright neighbors. It was high praise coming from her. Max's bedroom window opened, and a figure came tumbling out. It was Lucas. Eddie and Steve shared a look. No surprise there. Although, they both knew they weren't doing anything other than kissing and sleeping. . .at least Chrissy hoped not yet. The next figure that came out wasn't that much of a surprise either, considering that El was Max's best friend. Max leaned out the window and gave Lucas a goodbye kiss. Their eyebrows rose when she did the same with El.
"You know you could have used the door," Max's voice was heard from across the small road.
"It was more fun this way," El said.
"Totally," Lucas grinned.
"Dorks," she said affectionately.
Lucas and El took each other's hands before walking over to their bikes parked in front of Max's house. Max was watching them when her eyes caught Chrissy's, Eddie's, and Steve's. She froze. El and Lucas caught a glimpse of them as well. They couldn't help but freeze along with Max. Chrissy smiled. She enter laced her fingers with Steve and Eddie's before holding them up, letting them know they were safe. They breathed a sigh of relief. Max moved back inside while the other two rode off on their bikes, waving.
"Looks like we're not the only ones starting something new," Steve grinned.
Chrissy beamed as a bird fluttered by, singing as the sun shone down upon them. It was certainly a beautiful morning. They deserved this. Happiness. Love. Not a dark cloud in sight.
Eddie thought he had died. He was sure that he did. He saw his mother leaning over him. Her long curly hair, cascading down her shoulders. . .hair he hadn't seen since before she got sick. Elizabeth was singing to him and talking to him. He didn't remember her being made of stars, though.
"It's alright, you're going to be okay," Elizabeth said. "We're going to help you."
He blinked his eyes furiously. It wasn't Elizabeth leaning over him, but Nancy Wheeler. Her blue eyes had become watery like the ocean. He could see fish swimming in them. The water washed up on the shore of the pale beach, and Eddie tried to touch the single drop of water on the sand. He couldn't move his arm. It hurt too much. He could hear his mother's laughter, and she was spinning around, trying to get him to dance on her feet once more. Tears fell from his eyes, eager for his mother's touch again, a touch he hadn't felt since he was six years old.
"Eddie, man, you have to stay with us," he heard Steve Harrington beg.
Eddie blinked and looked to his left. Steve was leaning over him with tears in his own eyes. The stars. . .they were coming from Steve. Oh, those weren't stars. They were moles. Eddie laughed and closed his eyes, drifting off into the darkness. Their voice echoed in the dark, swirling together in the deep abyss.
"Stay with us. . .stay with us. . .Eddie."
"Mama."
When he woke up, he was surprised to find that he was alive and lying in a hospital bed. Wayne was holding his hand, looking down, and crying. Eddie squeezed his hand and tried to move it, but it was chained to the bed. Fuck. Wayne's head snapped open.
"Eddie," Wayne sobbed. "My boy, my boy. You're okay. It's all going to be okay. They're handling it. They're going to clear this up. . .Don't try to talk."
It hurt too much anyway. Eddie wondered if he would ever be able to speak again. He must have looked panicked because suddenly Wayne was trying to calm him down, and then there was a loud beeping sound in his ears. Would he be able to sing again? Eddie once again faded into the darkness.
"Eddie. . .are you awake?"
When he opened his eyes again, Dustin was looking down on him. He had a black eye. . .motherfucker, he was going to kill whoever did that to him. . .once he managed to get out of this bed. The handcuffs were still on him.
"The doctors said that you're going to make it, but I'm sorry, they did everything they could. They couldn't save it, Eddie," Dustin said seriously.
Eddie's eyes widened. He still couldn't talk. It hurt too much. What couldn't they save? Oh god, please don't let it be. . .was it his dick? Don't let it be his dick. He prayed for the first time in his life.
Eddie grinned. He wanted to laugh so bad. Leave it to Dustin Henderson to make him feel better in a shitty situation. Dustin laughed for him. Eddie closed his eyes and fell asleep with a smile on his face.
"Eddie, my love. . ."
Okay, he was definitely dreaming. He was in the woods at the picnic table again. It was night, and there was a tablecloth covering the table with candles twinkling in the darkness. Chrissy was sitting at the table in a pale pink dress, her strawberry blonde hair cascading down her shoulder in soft waves. She was beautiful inside and out, but he always thought so even if she was covered head to toe in mud.
"Chrissy?"
She got up and moved around the table. She held out her hand, and Eddie took it without question. She pulled him close, and they began to dance.
"Eddie, my love, I love you so. . .," Chrissy sang. "The very next day could be my last. . .please, Eddie. . .my love."
She stood on her tiptoes, reaching out for him, and he moved to meet her in the middle. Their lips had barely brushed when she vanished, her voice on the wind calling his name. The candles went out.
"I'm sorry," he heard a woman whisper.
"For what?" A man asked.
Eddie's eyes opened. Nancy and Steve were sitting in chairs next to his bed. They looked exhausted.
"For how I handled things back then," Nancy said. "You deserved better than that."
"It was a long time ago, Nance," Steve said.
"I still should have given you a proper apology," Nancy said. "You were a really great boyfriend. You were there for me even when I couldn't see it. Jumping into bed with Jonathan after you wanted me to tell you that I loved you, it was a shitty thing to do. I was a shitty girlfriend."
"You were hurting," Steve said.
"I was still responsible for my own actions, and our relationship didn't deserve to be treated like it was nothing, like it didn't matter. It meant so much to me. It meant everything. I loved you then, and I love you now," Nancy said.
"What about Jonathan?" Steve asked.
"I broke up with him. It was honestly over a long time ago, probably when we left Hawkins. We just didn't want to admit it," Nancy said.
Eddie watched as Steve took her hand, running it with his thumb. Eddie swallowed. Unambiguous sign of true love. He smiled, tears rolling down his cheeks.
"Chrissy," he gasped, closing his eyes again.
"Eddie?" Steve and Nancy asked as he slipped into the darkness once more.
He was really getting tired of waking up and only staying that way for a few minutes. Although, this time, something loud woke him up. Eddie's eyes widened. There was a fight going on in his hospital room. Andy was there, and he was trying to throw himself at his bed. Steve and Nancy were yanking him back with all their might, but Andy was a brute. Steve slugged Andy in the face while Nancy kneed him in the stomach. The knife in his hands cluttered to the ground. Shit, he was here to finish Eddie off. He could lift his arm now, and he realized he was no longer handcuffed to the bed. Did this mean that Eddie was a free man?
"FUCK!" Steve cursed as Andy punched him back.
Nancy jabbed the heel of her hand into Andy's nose, effectively breaking it. He cursed as his nose gushed blood, and he turned on her. Eddie tried to reach for the call button, but his arms were still sore. Andy went to pick up the knife, but Nancy slammed the heel of her boot onto his hand and kicked the knife away with the other. Andy charged at her, but she dove out of the way, and his head hit the wall. Nancy and Steve were standing side by side now as Andy turned to face them, shaking his head. His stupid hat had fallen off. Eddie could only watch as they fought for him. There was a blaze of fury in both of Nancy's and Steve's eyes as they threw everything they had at Andy. God, Eddie thought, they were beautiful. Nancy's ocean blue eyes were aflame along with Steve’s hazel ones, a mixture of brown and green like the color of the forest. Goddess of the ocean and god of the woods. There was hellfire in their eyes. . .yeah, he was definitely writing them in the next campaign. The fight ended with Steve kneeing Andy in the groin and Nancy hitting him in the head with a bed pan. Andy collapsed on the floor. Nancy and Steve gazed at each other. . .there was a different sort of heat between them now. Would they fuck in front of him? Eddie's heart rate sped up. Yeah, he'd be down for that.
"Oh my god!" A nurse exclaimed.
She had come in with security guards. She looked at Nancy and Steve. Nancy had a split lip and would probably end up having a black eye later. Steve’s nose was bleeding, and his eyebrow was cut. He'd definitely have a couple of black eyes. Black guys? Black eyes? No, where was Eddie's mind going? The security guards escorted Andy out of the room while the nurse went to get a doctor. Nancy and Steve turned to Eddie, surprised to find him awake.
"Hot," Eddie muttered before falling back asleep again.
When he woke up again, he found Hopper standing beside his bed. . .wasn't he dead? Eddie swallowed when he realized his mother was standing beside him, and suddenly, he was all choked up.
"Hey, kid, I just wanted to let you know that we got everything sorted out," Hopper said.
He couldn't focus on what Hopper said. Eddie could only see Elizabeth.
"Mama?" Eddie asked, bleary-eyed. "Can I dance on your feet again?"
"Oh, honey, it's Joyce Byers," she said gently and stroked his hair. "It's okay. You're okay."
Eddie blinked through the tears and realized she was right. Oh.
"Oh. . .for a minute there, I thought I was dead. You kind of look like her," Eddie said, blushing before he looked confused. "Wait. . .weren't you dead?"
"I was actually stuck in a Russian prison," Hopper said.
"Okay. Gotta tell me that story if I can manage to stay the fuck awake. . .what the hell?" Eddie asked.
"Oh, well, the doctors said it was because of the venom from the demobats. It knocked Steve on his ass for a couple of days," Joyce said.
"How long?" Eddie asked.
"A couple of weeks," Joyce replied.
"Jesus, I guess it's because they ate more of me," Eddie said.
"Plus, you lost a lot of blood," Hopper said. "You definitely have a lot more venom in your system than Steve had."
"I'm going to need coffee in an IV stat," Eddie said, yawning.
"You got it, kid," Hopper said. "I'll go to the diner. Wouldn't want you to end up here longer. I'm glad you're okay."
"Back at ya, Chief," Eddie grinned.
Just as Hopper left, Wayne came bursting through the door. He moved to Eddie's side immediately, sobbing.
"Eddie," he cried.
"I'm okay, Uncle Wayne," Eddie said. "Tis but a scratch."
"A scratch? Your nipple's off," Wayne said.
They stared at each other for a moment before bursting into laughter. Watching Monty Python was their favorite pasttime together.
"Worst accent ever, Uncle Wayne," Eddie grinned.
"Thank you for looking after my boy while I had a rest," Wayne said to Joyce.
"It wasn't a problem," Joyce said.
"I thought for a moment that I was with Mama again," Eddie said.
"She does look like her a bit," Wayne said. "I know I ain't your Mama, but I'm here, son."
"You're more than enough, Uncle Wayne," Eddie sighed.
"I'll let you guys have some time," Joyce said. "And I'll hold off the others."
"Thanks," Eddie said and gave her a very grateful look.
Joyce smiled at him before walking out the door. Eddie got a look at his uncle and noticed how tired he looked. He also noticed the bruise on his jaw and his scraped knuckles. Wayne stroked his hair.
"I'm glad you're awake," Wayne said.
"I'm sorry," he burst into tears.
"It ain't your fault, my boy. It's ain't your fault," Wayne said.
Wayne kissed his forehead and then leaned against it with his own as Eddie broke out into heartbreaking sobs. Wayne talked softly with him, explaining to them they're having a town meeting now. Eddie had been cleared of all charges, and the town was being warned not to go after Eddie or his friends, or there would be dire consequences. The story was that Eddie had been targeted by a serial killer by none other than Henry Creel, the son of Victor. Eddie had saved Jason and the town from Henry, but Jason had gone crazy, too crazy for even the town to take seriously. He was currently in Pennhurst. Eddie didn't feel too sorry about that. Hopper came in with coffee and some food for the both of them. After eating, Eddie was checked over by the doctors, and then they couldn't hold them back anymore. . .the kids came bursting in with the rest of Hellfire.
"I'm not going to save you from this one," Wayne laughed as he walked out the door.
Dustin, Lucas, and Mike eagerly surrounded Eddie's bed. They were talking all at once, and Eddie couldn't help but laugh. They quickly introduced Will and El, who both smiled shyly at him.
"We met," Will laughed.
"What? When?" Mike and Dustin asked.
"Spring of 84. Eddie took a baseball to the stomach from a bully that was meant for me," Will grinned.
"Zombie boy," Eddie said.
"Freak," Will replied and Eddie laughed.
"Tell me all about it," Mike said to Will.
"From the beginning, William," Dustin said.
"Excuse me, I was there, too," Eddie said with a laugh.
"Those idiots will be busy for a while," Gareth said.
"How's your wrist, man?" Eddie asked. "I heard Jason got you good."
"You got eaten by wild animals, and you're worried about my hand?" Gareth asked with a scowl.
"Of course," he replied.
"If you weren't so beat up, I'd hug the stuffing out of you, dumbass," Gareth said.
"Glad to see you're going to make it," Jeff said. "But you should know that Ronnie's on her way down from New York."
"What? Who called her?" Eddie scowled.
"Look, man, I know you didn't want us to bother her unless it was an emergency - ," Doug said.
"If this wasn't an emergency then what the fuck do you call it?" Gareth asked.
"Fair point," Eddie said. "Ugggh. She's going to be pissed."
"I think she'd be glad you're not dead, man," Doug said.
"Doug does not know Ronnie like we do," Jeff grinned.
"I mean, she's going to be happy, but when Eddie gets better, she might not want to leave his side again," Gareth said.
As Eddie talked with his sheep, he realized that Nancy and Steve weren't here or Robin, for that matter. Although he saw her with a redheaded girl during one of the many random times he had woken up. Nancy and Steve were probably off fucking in a closet. Eddie groaned at the thought and leaned his head back as he tried to focus on anything else. His own platonic soulmate was coming from New York. Let's focus on that.
"Eddie, are you a pain?" Dustin asked.
"Sort of," Eddie groaned. "Can you guys give me a minute? I need to collect my thoughts."
"Jonathan says that when he needs to fart. It's okay, Eddie, girls do it, too," El said. "I am not embarrassed."
"Well, I am," Eddie said and laughed. "Can you be an angel, please?"
"Eddie wants us to leave," El said. "Let's go get some food."
"We just got here!" Mike exclaimed.
"Michael!"
"Fine."
Everyone laughed at him as they exited the room. Eddie tilted his head back in relief and tried to get his mind off the image of his two friends having sex. The very two friends who risked it all over spring break to clear his name, the same two friends who fought like hell to stop Andy from killing him. . .or was that a dream? Either way, the image of them fighting like some kind of warrior gods were burned into his retinas. He cursed. Come on, Munson. . .okay, poor choice of words.
"Dead kittens, dead kittens, dead kittens. . .oh, no, now I'm sad," Eddie said.
"Well, why the hell are you thinking about dead kittens, Munson?" Steve’s voice came from the doorway.
Steve and Nancy stood at the entrance, looking as beautiful as ever. He cursed them both in his mind. Nancy had a very noticeable black eye and a split lip. Steve had on sunglasses, which he took off promptly to reveal two black eyes. He looked like a raccoon. Steve put the sunglasses on the front of his very tight and very inside out polo.
"We're glad you're awake, Eddie," Nancy said.
"Thanks. . .hey, there, Bandit," Eddie grinned.
"Yeah, I think I prefer big boy," Steve said.
"Yeah, I bet you do," Eddie said with a coy smile.
"It's a very accurate nickname," Nancy said with a mischievous grin.
"Nancy!" Steve laughed.
"Oh, reeeallly?" Eddie asked, his smile growing into a wicked grin. "I'm going to need some evidence."
"Buy me dinner first, Munson," Steve scoffed. "So, tell us why you were thinking about dead kittens."
"Just a dream I had. . .speaking of dreams, did I imagine it, or did you two kick some serious ass defending me from a monster?" Eddie asked. "A monster by the name of Andy?"
"Obviously, that happened," Nancy said, pointing to their faces.
"Okay. . .Hopper coming back wasn't a dream either?" Eddie asked.
"Nope," Steve said.
"What about you two impregnating me with six half human half demobat babies, which I then delivered?" Eddie asked.
"Yeah, no, that definitely happened," Steve said casually.
"Steve!" Nancy exclaimed.
"It didn't happen," Steve grinned. "Sorry, couldn't help myself."
"Don't be," Eddie cackled.
"What else happened in the dream?" He asked.
"Well, we tried enrolling them into preschool, but they were rejected because they were part demobats," Eddie said. "Nancy was pissed."
"Of course I was! Why shouldn't our kids be allowed to get an education?" Nancy asked.
"That does sound racist," Steve frowned.
"We could sue for discrimination," Nancy said.
"You think we'd have a case?" Steve asked, crossing his arms.
"I mean, if our kids weren't harmful to anyone and could play well with others. . .yeah, definitely," Nancy said.
Eddie frowned, looking back and forth between them.
"Well, win or lose, getting homeschooled by you would probably be better for them," Steve said.
"What about my career?" Nancy asked.
"You could still be a reporter. I'll find a job that I can do from home and whatever Eddie wants to do. We both babysat enough, and our current gremlins would probably love to pay us back, especially Dustin. You know he loves monsters," Steve said. "They'd probably love to help out with their education, especially when you're busy with work. . .it's not set in stone, whatever happens or if you want to change anything. . ."
"Dustin does love his monsters," Nancy said fondly. "That sounds like a really good plan. I love plans."
"I know," Steve smiled.
"You kind of forgot one thing, though," Eddie said.
"What?" Nancy asked.
"They're not real," Eddie said. "It was all apart of my subconscious."
"Oh, right," Steve and Nancy said, blinking.
"I'm sorry to disappoint you but you can't get me pregnant," Eddie said.
"It's fun to try, though, right?" Nancy asked with a smirk.
Eddie's heart clenched painfully in his chest as he gazed at the both of them. There was no doubt in his mind that he wanted this, but his thoughts and his heart still filled up with Chrissy. He wasn't ready to let go of the feelings he had begun to have for her just quite yet.
"I still need to do some healing first," Eddie said.
"Whenever you're ready," Nancy said with a knowing look.
"Yeah, man, take your time," Steve said. "We'll be here."
"You guys really talked about this, huh?" Eddie asked.
"Yeah," Nancy said, blushing. "We got you something."
"Nancy thought it might be a little offensive what I got for you, but I thought you might appreciate it," Steve grinned.
He pulled a stuffed bat out of a bag. Eddie gasped. It looked like an old Halloween decoration.
"It is offensive, but I love it," Eddie said as he took it in his arms.
"Yeah, it made me think of the whole Olly Oscar thing," Steve said.
"You mean Ozzy Osborne?" Eddie asked with a scowl.
"He's fucking with you, Eddie," Nancy giggled. "He knows exactly who that is."
"Nancy! Come on!" Steve yelled, and Eddie laughed.
Nancy rolled her eyes affectionately at him before pulling her gift out. It was a teddy bear with a little denim vest. Eddie grabbed it, cooing.
"I love it, thanks," Eddie said.
Nancy leaned down and kissed his cheek while Steve did the same on his other side.
"We're really glad you're still with us, Eddie," Nancy said and he smiled at her before frowning.
"Oh goddamn it! I'm getting tired again! I don't want to go back to sleep! This goddamn motherfucking venom! JESUS H - "
Eddie's eyes slid shut, and darkness over came him as he fell asleep asleep to the sound of Steve and Nancy's soothing voices. He was alive, and he was safe. . .the rest of it, they could figure out later.
When Steve invited Nancy, Jonathan, Argyle, Robin, Vickie, Eddie, and Chrissy over for New Years, he really didn't think it through. They were all coupled together, and Steve wasn't. Even Argyle brought his current lover to the party. Steve had quickly disappeared into the kitchen and cursed.
"You're so fucking stupid, Steve," he told himself.
Sure, he was happy by himself, but he also liked romance. . .he liked being with people, especially with people he cared about. The dating game had been depressing for him since spring break. The minute he took off his shirt, suddenly, they needed to leave. He even thought he got lucky once when he almost hooked up with a guy. Steve had taken off his shirt, and the guy looked at his scars, softly said "ew" before making an excuse to leave. It had been quite hurtful, so Steve just decided to stop trying, and he hated it because while he was happy that he had his friends, his family, he was also lonely. He loved spending time with Eddie and Chrissy, too, but they just reminded him that he didn't have a partner. Steve couldn't decide which one of them he was jealous of.
"Hey, big boy," he heard Eddie's voice.
Steve turned around to find Eddie and Chrissy standing in the doorway of the kitchen.
"Are you alright, Steve?" Chrissy asked.
"Uh, yeah. . .I just really didn't think this through," Steve said. "I don't have anyone to kiss at midnight."
"Well, hell, I'll kiss you," Eddie said, waving his hand at him.
"What about Chrissy? She won't have someone to kiss," Steve said.
"Shit, yeah, that's true," Eddie frowned.
"We'll both kiss you!" Chrissy exclaimed rather cheerfully.
"How?!" Steve and Eddie asked.
"Well, Eddie will take one corner of your mouth, and I'll take the other," Chrissy said.
"It could work," Steve said thoughtfully and then tried to make a joke. "Yeah, okay, but don't go falling in love with me. . ."
Eddie and Chrissy shared looks of amusement before looking back at Steve.
"Too late," they said.
"What?" He asked.
"Oh, come on, I thought we were obvious," Eddie scoffed.
"We did keep inviting you out on our dates, and we kept asking you if you wanted a sleepover," Chrissy said. "And then you stopped hanging out with us for a while."
"Yeah, we assumed you weren't interested," Eddie shrugged.
"But I - I thought I was getting in between your relationship with Chrissy," Steve said.
"That's exactly what we wanted, sweetheart," Eddie said.
"But - I, uh, - both. . .at the same time? I never thought - ," Steve said, and he ran a hand through his hand. "I didn't know which one to choose, and I never thought I could choose both."
"There's nothing stopping you," Chrissy said as they moved closer to him.
They stood on either side of him, basically locking him in.
"My dating skills might be a little rusty," Steve blushed. "It's been pretty disastrous over the last few months. No one's really wanted to look at me, let alone touch me. One guy went literally went ew when he saw my scars."
"And you think Chrissy and I know what we're doing? I haven't dated anyone, and the last relationship Chrissy was in was arranged by her mother. We're all figuring things out," Eddie said, and then what Steve had said sunk in. "Wait. . .what guy said ew to you?"
"It doesn't matter," Steve said, blushing as Eddie wrapped a comforting around his shoulder.
"Give me a name, Steven," he said softly. "I'm just going to talk to the guy."
"Yeah, but I feel like you're not going to use your words," Steve said frowning.
"You can't kill him, Eddie," Chrissy giggled.
"And why can't I?" He asked.
"Because you just got off the murder charges over spring break, I don't want you to go to jail," Chrissy said.
"Oh, so, when I want to kill a guy, I have to stand down, but when I tell you not to kill a guy, I'm supposed to just let you pout about it for a month," Eddie said and waved his hand at her. "Ah, double standard."
Eddie flashed his dimples at Chrissy as she laughed.
"Who did you want to kill?" Steve asked.
"Andy," Chrissy said.
She started playing with the buttons on Steve’s collar. He had his button-up done all the way up to hide the scars around his throat.
"You should have just let her kill him," Steve said.
"Yeah, well, I think it's a possibility. I think she might be scheming with Nancy," Eddie said.
"I am," Chrissy said with a giggled.
All of her focus was now on Steve’s shirt. She was popping it open one by one, and Steve didn't stop her from going all the way down. . .curious at what they would say. Finally, Chrissy had it opened, exposing his torso and his scars. Her fingers trailed down from the scar around his throat to the scars on his lower abdomen.
"You're beautiful inside and out, Steve," Eddie breathed, tucking a hair behind his ear. "I think you forget that I have scars too."
He grabbed Steve’s hand and brought it underneath his shirt, letting Steve feel it. Chrissy brought her lips to Steve’s throat, kissing his scars gently. Eddie did the same, burying his head into Steve’s neck. Steve’s eyes fluttered, and he moaned as Eddie's hand went to the scars on his stomach. . .right above the belt. God, it felt like he was being devoured. . .in a good way, though.
"Shouldn't we save the kissing for midnight?" Steve gasped as Chrissy nibbled at his skin.
"That's only for the lips," Eddie whispered. "Doesn't mean we can't kiss you anywhere else. . .big boy."
"Hey!" They heard Robin yell. "You're going to miss the ball dropping!"
Steve hurried to button his shirt up and tuck it back into his pants as he rushed back into the living room after the others.
"You missed a button," Robin said in amusement and then grinned. "Slut."
"Definitely," Steve laughed.
"Chrissy's lipstick is all over your neck," Robin said and then looked over at Eddie. "And if Eddie was wearing lipstick?"
"It would be there, too," Steve blushed.
"Happy for you, dingus," Robin said.
"You're about the miss the ball dropping, Robin," he said.
"Oh, right!"
3. . .2. . .1!
Eddie and Chrissy kissed Steve on the corners of his mouth just like they said they would. It was so soft. . .so gentle. . .so perfect.
"Happy New Year," Eddie and Chrissy said, taking his hands in theirs.
"Happy New Year," Steve whispered, a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eyes.
He had been happy before, but he was happier now, and maybe it had something to do with being wanted twice. . .not just for his body, but for who he is. Yeah, a Happy New Year, indeed.
