“Aren´t you cold?” Thomas asked you as he looked down at you and you shook your head no. Both of you continued in walking on the path which was leading to the place you didn´t really want to be at, but you had to. She was your aunt.
You realized how your hand started shaking and you looked down at it. Your brother was faster than you and he took your hand into his, gently squeezing it, trying to tell you that everything was going to be okay. But you didn´t believe that phrase.
As you arrived to the place where the huge caravan stood, shiver ran down your spine. Looking up at the huge wooden caravan, you knew that your aunt´s body was in there with all of her things, portraits, pictures and everything she had ever had. You looked onto the ground and onto your foot, trying to not think about how did your aunt look in there.
“Hey,” Thomas whispered to you and you looked up at him. Realizing that you were squeezing his hand a little too hard, you loosened your grip around his hand. Trying to pull your hand away even.
“Mhm?”
“It is alright,” Thomas whispered to you and you realized how Ada was making her way towards you. Oh god, she looked just like your aunt when she was in Ada´s age. That thought made your lips curve into a dangerous shape and you sobbed quietly, trying to not cry so much.
“Hi,” Ada whispered as she reached you and looked at Thomas. You didn´t need to look up at her to know what she was doing. You saw only her fingers she was playing with and it was enough for you. You didn´t want to remind yourself of the woman who meant so much to you and couldn´t be there for you anymore.
“Hi Ada,” Thomas said and you hoped it would be enough for her and you didn´t need to talk. Swallowing became even harder than before and you closed your eyes to deal with the pain in your chest - the pain your aunt left after she was killed.
Nobody expected you to talk. Everyone knew that you loved Polly as if she was your mother you have never got to meet. Ada let out a quiet sigh and she stood next to Thomas from the other side, giving you the space you needed.
Standing there all zoned out, you refused on looking up at the faces you were pretty sure were watching you. You didn´t even look at Michael who was standing across from you. Knowing that something bad was going on between him and your brother, you cut the connections even sooner.
“Aren´t you cold?” Thomas asked you and you just shook your head no. Someone walked closer to the caravan, not getting your eyes on them. When warmth hit your face, that could only mean that the caravan was on fire already and a tear rolled down on your cheek.
Your lungs started to shake together with your stomach. You weren´t sure if you were about to throw up or faint. Feeling a little sick, you gulped loudly, hanging on your brother´s arm.
“Y/n?”
“Mhm?” You asked him back, swallowing. Your legs started to feel weak and everything inside of you started shaking. Your lungs became heavier than before and the air felt thicker.
“Come,” Thomas pulled you a little and he walked aside with you, followed with Ada. When you were even a little away from your family, you started taking deep breaths and you closed your eyes shut. “Y/n, open your eyes.”
“Can´t Tom, c-can´t-” you shook your head and kept them closed. Someone´s arm arrived to your shoulder and it felt really warm and big. It had to be Thomas.
“Breath Y/n, breath,” Thomas kept talking to you and if you didn´t want to faint, you had to listen to him.
“They killed her. They fucking killed her,” you shook your head and your weak voice rang in Thomas´s ears. “T-They-”
“Shh Y/n,” Thomas tried to sush you and he pulled you onto his chest. You grabbed his body and tried to hold him close, feeling the scent of fire from him, not the flower scent. His hands were not as soft and your aunt´s hands. He couldn´t comfort like she could. But you didn´t want to loose him just like you lost her.
“Tommy they killed her-”
“I know Y/n, I know,” he couldn´t say anything else, just this. Then he took a deeper breath and you didn´t even try to open your eyes. “They will regret it Y/n. They will regret taking Polly from us,” he said and pressed a kiss onto the side of your head. The kiss was a... a Thomas kiss. Nothing soft, but you could still feel the emotions spreading on your skin.
When the shaking of your body slowed down and you could take a more proper breath than before, your breathing was still fast. You pressed your hands against your chest and shut your eyes even more.
A pair of warm hands covered yours, what calmed you down a little. And then, the following few seconds, when nothing was happening, you could calm yourself down a little, you could focus on your breathing and on that you were really cold.
“Better?” Ada asked from you and you looked around. Everything what has been a little smudged before was now turning clean and you took another deep breath to make sure you weren´t dreaming.
But sadly, you weren´t.
“I think,” you whispered and then closed your eyes once more. You opened them immediately and looked at your brother. He nodded his head and helped you with standing up straight. His muscular hand held you on your legs and Ada brushed the hair out of your face.
“Tell me when you´re ready,” Thomas whispered to you and you knew what did you have to do. You swallowed really hardly and with your head still bowed, you didn´t want to look up there yet.
When you found the strength in yourself, you lifted your chin. The caravan was still there, but it was burning already. The smoke was rising into the air, really slowly, as if Polly Gray wanted to stay for a little longer.
A shaky breath left from your mouth, making your brother worried. And your sister as well. When they both looked at you, you just closed your eyes with a little nod to let them know that everything was alright and they seemed to believe you.
The moment of the realization hit you as soon as you realized the burned wood of the caravan. Knowing that the woman wouldn´t come back ever again, a tear rolled down on your cheek and you took Thomas´s hand, squeezing it a little. He understood why did you squeeze it and sighed quietly.
“Ada we will go,” he said to his sister and turned away from her with you. As the tears started falling from your eyes every few seconds, you refused to let out a sound, but a sob escaped you anyways. As Thomas led you to his car and opened the doors for you, you started crying even more and got into the car.
The ride was silent. The hole which was created in your heart was slowly spreading into your whole body. All you wanted to do was to see her smile for the last time, to kiss you goodnight for the last time. But all you could do was look up at the sky and wish for her to rest easy.
“We are going home now and we will get some hot chocolate, hm?” Thomas asked you and you didn´t answer him verbally, just nodded your head, hoping that he would see and take it as an answer. He started the car and put it into reverse, while your eyes were still fixed on the caravan. As you started to tear up again, you quickly wiped your cheeks, trying to not cry again.
You loved your aunt as if she had been your mother. She had helped you with everything she could. And now, you didn´t have her by your side and you had to do all the decisions all alone. Looking up at the sky where the smoke disappeared, you hoped in that your aunt found peace and would take care of you from up there
