just finished pokemon evolved! i don't have too many thoughts, it's literally just leafgreen but every mon has a few extra evolutions lol. i did have fun using elevated versions of mons that usually aren't good enough to use long term though! my end team was ditto, parasect, beedrill, butterfree, persian, and seaking! i don't think i've ever brought any of these into the hall of fame before, so that's fun!

Humans unlock the ability to evolve. Fusing with stones to gain typing abilities. Their bodies changing to match their typing.
Fire types whose hair becomes flame or red scales form on their skin.
Water types who grow webbed fingers ans can breathe underwater.
Ghost types who can levitate and phase through walls.
Every type is different, and every person looks unique. No two people are alike.
Some people fan fuse to two evolution stones. But most cant even do one.
Those who are really poweful can do three or more.
But no one has been able to hold all stone types at once.
That person would be mythic.
Pokemon Evolved would be about the main character traveling the world and leveling up and learning elemental stone powers. Until getting all of them ane becoming a Mythic Type Pokemon.
I think the world is in a semi feudal stage and fighting denotes rank in society. The character can rise in social rank through battles and gym appraisals.
Until reaching Mythic class and becoming ruler of the kingdom!

Been a little while since I posted something. Definitely was because I was busy, and not because I've been cripplingly self-conscious about all the writing I've been working on, that'd never happen.

Probably one of the simpler reviews I have lined up, but that's what you get with gimmick games like this. Nice, simple, uncomplicated premises. And when they're being done by the Atsign team, it's a safe bet it's gonna be good.
This one’s gonna be a shorter one, since this is the first hack I have that doesn’t have a new region or story as part of the package. This is a rom hack that gained a lot of attention in mainstream pokemon channels for fairly obvious reasons that can be summed up almost entirely by pointing wojaks: Pokemon Evolved.
Evolved was created by Atsign and their very experienced team of rom hack developers, based on carrying a very simple concept through to its conclusion: what if everything in the Kanto pokedex just had more evolutions? A concept like that only really works if executed masterfully, and this team absolutely delivered.
The designs of the evolutions in this game are fantastic. They take great lengths to find creative angles for these evolutions to keep the new designs recognizable to their origins, but fresh and original. Like with all pokemon designs, there are some that I’m fond of, and others that I’m not; ideas that I found really creative, and ideas they seemed to reuse a couple times.
Regardless of my particulars though, I found they did an excellent job at making the more evolved forms of these pokemon feel like unbelievably powerful titans that are even more ludicrous for a child to be running around with six of.
My one major complaint about their designs visually is that the more they evolved, the busier their designs got. The silhouettes of final forms started to blend together in the end, as well as particular shaded features, like the cosmic effects on multiple lines of pokemon.
Looking back on it, my favorite evolution design in the game was also one of the first you’d be likely to see: Butterflare, the first new evolution for Butterfree. It’s an elegant new form for Butterfree with a gorgeous pair of monarch butterfly wings, and compared to a lot of designs from this game, its simple design upgrades gives it a lot of edge over the complicated and extra final forms.
Even as I complain about the business of the final forms, though, I ultimately don’t think it’s even a problem - in fact, that design feature was almost inevitable, I imagine. Conveying more power in the design of a static sprite almost invariably means adding more detail, and to their credit, the team executed that very well. For as much of it as there is, the detail of these designs don't feel like visual noise. The sprite work on these creatures is immaculate, and as I alluded, it made for fantastic reaction farming content for large Poketuber channels.
Of course, there’s a lot more to this than a bunch of new sprites. How do these evolved pokemon play mechanically in this game? The simple answer is exactly as you would expect from an Atsign game. They’ve been making hacks for challenge runs for a good long while; they have a tight working knowledge of pokemon mechanics, and it is absolutely effective enough to design pokemon with stats well above the normal pokemon power curve. Just about every pokemon I added to my team felt like a valuable addition; team building was always a blast in this game.
Of course the brilliant design doesn’t stop at how they look and how they battle. Even the evolution levels have been set down in a way to make sure you’re getting new evolutions all the time, from your first butterfree or beedrill evolution before Misty to your last legendary evolutions at Indigo Plateau. And of course, because they know exactly what the appeal of this hack is, they have the infinite rare candies in the PC cheat hard coded into the game so you can evolve everything at your leisure.
As for the challenge, I think it’s done in a very engaging way. The game truly eases you into the difficulty, allowing you to be the first to acquire the power of a new evolution, only throwing little tweaks to the opposing teams to spice up the battles a touch. The further you go, the more liberties they take, and before you've even made it to the league, trainers will be coming at you with diverse and challenging teams of fully evolved nightmare fuel, but not built in such a way that you'll need calcs to survive - good thing too, because good luck finding a calculator for these pokemon.
The only major obstacle to challenge runs like Nuzlockes and the like is that the game doesn’t come with documentation. This is understandable; I can say from grueling experience that pulling together documentation for a hack, especially with a lot of fakemon, is a long, tedious, and thankless task.
As of the time of writing, there is a community made spreadsheet documenting the full pokedex of the game, but nothing of the sort for the battles; the best you can have are the gym leader level caps, and video playthroughs documenting at least some of those key battles. Of course, if you’re fine playing a challenge run somewhat blind, that should come as no real issue, especially with access to full pokedex information for the roster.
As fantastic as this rom hack is, I can’t really put it any higher than the A tier; at the end of the day, this is one of hundreds of games that take you through the base Kanto of FireRed and LeafGreen, which is a flawed experience at the best of times. Retreading through base Kanto can be an immediate turnoff for rom-hack players, and I don’t believe that a game which only really has one gimmick to offer can be in the running for the best of the best against games offering a completely new pokemon experience. However, on account of how brilliantly it manages to execute its one defining concept, I think Evolved is fit to sail cleanly to the top of A tier, and it's gonna be a hard tier leader to dethrone.
