Genesys Points Update Reaction
There was a surprise points update last night so I'm going to post my thoughts in sections. Overall, I'm not going to talk about the many other changes I think they should have made to overpointed decks, because this list seems to be focused on adjusting the current meta, and they'll probably do a broader list in the future.
Top Meta
These changes are good. A shitty floodgate is out of the game and Blitzclique is probably at a more appropriate power level, but it can still play a playset of Charmies or Nibiru, but likely not both. It's still far cheaper than a lot of decks weaker about it, but I said I wouldn't talk about that so I won't.
Fairy Tail Snow getting out of jail doesn't matter when this deck is now too expensive to compete. Having an extra 55 points added to your core is gonna really suck. This deck can cut down to 1 copy of Super Poly and search it with Alchemic Magician and then still have room for a playset of a Charmy, but I'm surprised at how hard this was nerfed considering how poorly it did despite having a 0-point core engine. I don't think this deck is a good meta call; its combo lines are too fragile and now you're much less likely to open up a blowout going second to make up for it. It's a shame Konami forgot to give this the in-archetype super poly they clearly intended for it.
Then on the flipside, Melffy got away with murder. For how powerful this deck is, how strange of an axis it plays on, and how its worst matchups got nerfed, this deck is looking to be in an incredible position. I will be bringing this deck to a regional soon and I can't believe I get to play a playset of Droll and Dominus Purge in this, or whatever else I want. If Blitzclique really did get nerfed hard enough that players feel like switching off of it, I think this will be the top deck.
This is another top meta nerf in Sacred Beasts, but I don't think this matters too much. The points add up but I've seen builds that don't use Nerva or rely on Gustav and probably won't care too much about having to like, drop Dark Ruler or swap out Cyclones for MST. There are some other nerfs but I don't have much to say on those.
Buffs
As for these generic buffs, it's hard to know what to say. Most of these are still quite expensive, but if you're playing a deck that really relies on them, it's a big deal. I played some X-Saber/Assault Mode for example and suddenly gaining almost 50 points is a huge deal, but some of these decks won't know what to do with them. OSS is a good example, since without links, Snake-Eyes's power is pretty up in the air. These will be experimented with and open up the format, but I doubt they'll do much to the meta. For the specific deck buffs, it's hard to say. I don't think PK or Swordsoul are going to do anything. Raigeki to 2 isn't going to do anything either. The biggest change here is Fire King, since gaining ~10 points can make a big difference in a deck that tight. Fire King has a great matchup into Blitz as well, and could be the reason players switch off of it.
Wrap-Up
The more I look at the list, the more I like it, and I think the format is moving in the right direction. Genesys is probably in a better spot than it was after CORI release, and should be even easier for new players to get into and compete with their decks. Fairy Tail got off a bit too hard and Blitz too easy, but perhaps adjustments will come as the meta takes shape.
