16 for Finn and reader, 50 days?
50 days of fics: Day 48
*final countdown on kazoo*
Prompt:Â Â weâre on the longest flight ever and Iâm a bad flier to begin with but youâve fallen asleep on my shoulder and are snoring SO LOUDÂ
"Would you like the aisle seat, the middle seat, or the window seat?â the woman at the counter asked.
Finnâs eyes widened. âWell, if Iâm in the window seat, then Iâd see everything as the plane crashes, but if Iâm in the middle then Iâd have to constantly crawl over people to leave the row...â
âSo the aisle seat?â
âBut then people will crawl over me!â
The womanâs jaw ticked in annoyance. âI just need to know what seat, Sir.â
âSurprise me!â Finn said in exasperation with himself.
The woman nodded, the smile not meeting her eyes. Sheâd burn this place to the ground if she could. She handed him his ticket.
âAw, man, the aisle seat?â he whined, looking at the ticket as he turned to walk away.
He went over to wait in line to board, finally making his way onto the plane. His nerves were through the roof. Heâd never flown before, but heâd seen all the plane crashes over his life time. He knew they were few and far between, but that didnât make him any less nervous. In his eyes, an airplane was just a coffin in the sky.
He wanted to sit in his seat, but the other people in his row werenât there yet, so he busied himself with his bag in the overhead compartment. He pretended to dig around as a man slipped by and into the window seat. In fact, he was still pretending to search futilely for an object that didnât exist when you brushed by and settled into the seat in the middle.
âAha! Headphones,â he exclaimed softly before pulling out the pair that he knew had been tucked into the side pocket of his bag the entire time. He sat down in his seat.
âHi,â you smiled.
âHello,â he replied.
âEver flown before?â you asked to make conversation.
âNo, no, this is my first time,â he said with a nervous smile. âIs it that obvious?â
You shrugged, not entirely sure how to respond. You were just trying to make conversation with the people you were going to be next to for the long flight home. After rooting through the purse at your feet, you pulled out the novel you had planned to read. The plane started to take off, and you noticed the man next to you grip the handle on his seat.... and then your hand.
âS-sorry,â he apologized, relinquishing his grip.
You gave him an awkward smile. This was going to be a long flight.
Sometime after reading your novel, you started to fall asleep. It was gradual. Slow eye blinks here, a yawn there... and then you were out. Your head lolled to the side, settling on your nervous neighborâs shoulder.
Finn tensed as your head settled on his shoulder. He shot frantic eyes at window seat man, but he was busy looking out the window. Finn was truly on his own. Should he wake you? Would that be rude? You were kind of cute sleeping on his shoulder? But you were a stranger, and oh, youâve started to snore. Loudly. He tried to put his earbuds back in, but your head kept one of them from fitting into his ear.Â
He let out a sigh. He could wake you. Maybe he could get you to shift over to window manâs shoulder? No, he wouldnât wish this upon him. He could already see Window Manâs chiseled jaw tighten the louder you snored. Window Man was not a good candidate. Maybe he could just ride it out?
Oh, no, he couldnât. Window Man elbowed you awake.Â
A prodding elbow in your stomach caused you to jolt, knocking your head against nervous Nellyâs jaw.
âOuch,â you murmured, rubbing your noggin.
You stretched as well as you could given the space and soon enough, you fell back into the same patterns and a nap claimed you once more. Window Man huffed in disgust.
âFor such a pretty thing, she snores like a trucker,â window man shot out.
Finn smirked. He had to agree. âYeah, but perhaps if we let her sleep, then sheâll wake up and we could sleep in silence.â
Window Man raised an eyebrow. âPerhaps youâre right.â
Finn was not right. You slept a majority of the flight. By the time you woke up, you were an hour away from the destination and his ears were ringing, and you had drooled on his shoulder. He stared at you from the corner of his eye as you straightened out now.
âAre you good? Because I donât think I could handle another one of your naps. Iâm tired, Iâm claustrophobic, and youâre loud,â he said pointedly.
You had the common sense to look sheepish. âIâm sorry.â
âSorryâs not going to dry the drool off his sweatshirt,â Window man said. They had bonded while you were asleep.
Your eyes widened in shock, âIâm so sorry.â
The plane hit some turbulence and his hand instinctively gripped yours again. Except, this time you squeezed back. Youâd owed him that much for letting you sleep on him.
âWeâre going to die,â Finn said simply.
Window Man snorted.
âWeâre not going to die. Weâre just starting to land,â you replied soothingly. You patted his hand with your other hand as you started the descent.
âSee? It wasnât that bad,â you told him as you landed.
âYouâre right. I survived!â
âYou survived,â you chuckled.
âWe all did,â Window Man smirked.
