QUOTE: "Legacy. What is a legacy? It’s planting seeds in a garden you never get to see.“
PERSONALITY:
Empathetic: He learned from a young age that one shouldn’t judge someone’s story he knows nothing about. Growing up with his own struggles, Talon knows how to relate to others and the importance of listening without putting the focus on himself.
Intuitive: When push comes to shove he relies on his gut feeling more than reason and trusts himself enough to follow through. Talon will pick things up on cues or hints quickly or at least know what past experiences will benefit him in a present moment, maybe not always with positive results, but at least ones he was expecting.
Protective: The saying of setting yourself on fire to keep the ones he loves warm is a notion that defines him to a fault. Sometimes biting off a little more than he can chew gets him in worse positions than he started, but he never bats an eye in doing so.
Bold: He speaks his mind, often without the filter he knows better to have. He wears his opinion brazenly on his sleeve, the more polarising the more passionate he become, and in doing so puts himself of a position of confidence or more often ammunition to be used against him.
Stubborn: Perhaps it’s his older child syndrome speaking with the louder voice that always has to be right. It really boils down to a matter of pride. Even if he knows he’s wrong he’ll still stick to his opinion out of pride in the moment to have the last word before licking his wounds later.
Hot-headed: Sometimes his passion and opinionated nature backfires on him as if he’s looking for a reason, especially where’s enough testosterone filling the room . The most he’ll do is grab someone by the shirt and speak through a clenched jaw as he is more the type to finish a fight than initiate one.
BIOGRAPHY: Talon was born in the heart of Queens to two parents barely old enough to buy lottery tickets. Even through the struggles of young parenthood, not always sure where the next meal was coming from, and taking odd jobs to make ends meet, the small family unit was still happy. After a childhood of moving around different apartments in the borough, fortunately the Naysmiths found stability when he was a teenager and planted themselves in a modest house near the city, even having an addition to the family, his brother Treant, whom he’s very close and protective of.
Talon excelled in school pouring almost everything he had into his studies, hoping that he could get himself a scholarship to the university as he didn’t want to go on his parents dime or get himself into anymore debt. Competition in the city is fierce, and while he was waitlisted, he ultimately never went through higher education. Following similarly in his parents footsteps, Talon took various odd jobs since graduating to build a savings enough to pay for school on his own. The plan was working for a few years, and right when he was ready to apply for school again, his mother contracted Lupus, and his financial focus shifted immediately from himself to aiding his father in taking care of her and his younger brother. Odd jobs eventually turned into a much more stable one in an office where he sits in front of a computer, not quite sure how to explain exactly what he does, but it’s enough to pay the bills and give him medical benefits for himself and his family.
Things took a turn for the worst when he received a call that his father was in critical care seemingly by something self-inflicted, but died before Talon and his family could get there in time. The tragedy hit their family hard as none of them saw it coming and assumed it was some big mistake despite being assured over and over again that it wasn’t. After their initial grieving at the hospital and his snapping at the nurse who he blamed for not being able to save him, Talon rushed to get some fresh air and water. The nearest vendor was all to happy to oblige him, but was only selling a strange new brand of tonic water that she assured him would help with the nerves. Being that the next place for refreshments was in the hospital that he didn’t want to be anywhere near, he didn’t have a choice but to buy the and drink the annoyingly overpriced water.
Talon’s powers may have manifested immediately, but he certainly wasn’t aware of them right away nor is he to this day. The new normal of being the head of his house was enough to drive his focus on its own without noticing a few unexplained oddities that happen to him every now and again. There have been a few instances when he would be walking home at night and he’d realise the trip was much shorter than he remembered, or use the restroom at midnight half-asleep and not realise he hadn’t opened any doors. In the tedium of his cubicle and smoke breaks, he usually shrugged off the comments or talk about people mysteriously disappearing and strange things happen to them in his office. As far as he was concerned, another government conspiracy was at the bottom of his list of concerns.
HEADCANONS:
Chains and Chimneys: Talon has had a nasty habit of smoking, unfortunately since his late teenage early adult years. Thankfully he’s cut himself down to a pack or two a week from as much a day, but given the choice he’d much rather go for his Camels than a pack of gum. Five-Finger-Discount Policy: if it’s not nailed down it’s easier to nab. There’s never been a bank heist and he’s never held up a jewellery store, and his father always told him that he never wanted the fact that they never had a lot of money to limit them. Concrete Jungle Gym: there needed to be an easier and faster way of getting around, and sometimes finding the fastest way from point A to point B didn’t involve using public transportation. It may be unconventional but jumping around and running through the city like it’s an obstacle course is better than any gym membership.
