My Marvellous Dream is You: A Year Later.
Well technically a year and three days later(it aired on May 8th 2024).
Re watching this show made me realized that I wasn't in the best condition when I watched it so I wasn't as fair as always try to be to shows and storylines. Most of my posts about the show were criticizing the show and I almost never shared the things I did like about it. So A year later(sorry I forgot to post before) I decide to correct that and make that post.
This show exist. At the moment Idol Factory had just Freen and Becky and GAP, and they could continue just with FreenBecky alone or dismiss the idea of continuing with GLs projects. We know how well FB has done for them. But the company decided to cast a new couple and officially continue the production of GLs.
The Performance. Everyone in the cast was perfect. Even Heng that his character made the most of the issues of this show acted so good.
The Aesthetic. I saw someone mentioning that this show looked bad. I don't know about that but in my old school laptop every shot of this show looked extremely beautiful. But most important the way they add impact to the shots showcasing the feelings and meanings to empathize. It was so well done and artistic.
Fay and May's raw chemistry. This was my first project with them and to be honest I feel like their raw chemistry is probably in the top three of all Thai GLs actresses(mind you the fact that dream wasn't as popular didn't let this show). Because of the format of the project I connected more with Fay than I did with May but both of them worked so well and work even better together. I am so glad we got somewhere somehow as a next project for them.
The concept. Probably the reason I got so much exasperated with this show is because the concept is probably one of the most interesting I have found since I started getting into Thai GLs. A shared dream world where they can express their emotions without fear and how said space affects their real life and their relationship while they are connected by the trauma of their dads leaving together to start a relationship. Gay parents and at least bisexual mothers that somehow the universe made them more connected to each other(even if Kim's mom died you bastards). They have great humor and touched on very interesting topics that we don't usually get to see in shows. The Mawin show up and mess up everything. Great concept not as well execution.
Side characters: The squad. Mali and Mon were great as friends. I love the chaotic vibe they bring to the show. I felt kinda bored about them at the end but it was mostly because they had to fill the gap we were having with the mains. It was funny, endearing and noticeable. I dropped apple but I feel like after Apple this squad is my favorite one.
Side Couples: MinniexToon. You have Silvy as one of the only butch in the industry with her real life wife to give a EXTREMELY small but mindful story about a person getting to love the right person after dealing with the wrong one. Toon sadly didn't have that much screen time and the few was most fixing the mess that is Dawan but still the time we had was valuable and just great. I just with we could had more of them.
Side Couple: PamRak. Emmie and Bonnie OWNED Pam and Rak dynamic. They gave the relationship an unique and incredible twist nobody can rival. But still to this day I am fascinated with Dream's version of Pam and Dokrak. The giant angry woman melting to the side of the sunshine woman just by standing or a small touch? The story of them meeting since kids at school and developing a beautiful relationship? Dokrak seems to be this sunshine person because she has Pam next to her. A feeling that only a person that found and established a relationship with the love with her life. And sure, most of the anger Pam has comes with her rivalry with Dawan, but it was obvious it was mostly as need to protect Dokrak and have quality with her girlfriend/wife and these crazy women came to be in the middle with their drama. While I love Us the Series with all my heart I would still watched a show with these version of the pairing. I feel at the end was my favorite part of the show.
YouTube. Can you believe we have this amazing shows mostly for free on YouTube? The accessibility is so important to have, even more now days that it feels less and less support in western media.Like that even make even crazier the fact that not that much people has got into Thai GLs and still hang around western media expecting crumbs.
None of this fix the amount of crap I trowed to this show when it was airing but still I want to write this so I can say I still find good things.
