Watching the scene between Cersei and the Iron Bank again, and mulling over how D&D are fumbling in trying to balance out Team Dany vs Team Cersei, and give Cersei a fighting chance. And the fact that the show doesn’t seem to have a consistent stance on ‘the explosion at the Sept last season was an accident’ vs ‘the explosion at the Sept was totally Crazy Cersei.’
So, okay — Cersei and Co keep claiming the explosion at the Sept was an accident, in spite of everyone and their Hot Pie knowing what went down? Fine, let’s go with that. Let’s have a scene — maybe in ep 2, maybe tacked onto the scene where Cersei is talking to the Tyrell bannerman — where this is officially stated. ‘Oh, no, the Sept of Balor was a Tragic Accident, caused by an unknown store of wildfire that had been placed there by the Mad King years ago. We investigated, and discovered there may be countless more stores hidden all through KL, and if Dany comes with her dragons it could ignite the whole city.’ Have Cersei use the threat of more ‘accident’s to keep the people in line.
Then let’s have Cersei send a present to Dragonstone. A jar of wildfire. A message that Tyrion could clearly interpret because he knows his sister and he knows from Jamie about the wildfire stores. Instead of a vague ‘if we attack KL, innocents will die, even though we showed last season that Dany can control her dragons enough to conduct precision attacks’, have a concrete ‘if we attack KL, my sister will burn the entire city to the ground.’ Let’s see a real reason to keep Dany from letting her dragons rain unholy fiery justice down on the Red Keep.
Let’s see the crowds cheering Euron cheering and celebrating...nervously. Let’s have an official edict that the citizens of KL can’t leave — maybe lying about dragons and Dothraki running loose outside the walls of KL, or that even moving out of a house that’s settled over a store of wildfire can set it off. Let’s see Cersei have a few desperate souls who tried to run executed. Let’s have Cersei holding an entire city hostage because she is dangerous and violent and there are no lengths she wouldn’t go to in order to keep power.
