I definitely think the proposed bathroom laws suck but I feel like the #PlettPutMeHere selfies are relying on the disconnect between peopleâs perceived gender and which bathroom theyâre using instead of their identity and the bathroom theyâre forced to use, prioritizing trans people that are gender conforming and âpassâ as their identified gender.
Masculine trans women, feminine trans men, nonbinary people, and people that donât âpassâ have just as much of a right to use the bathroom that corresponds best with their identity as everyone else.

As transphobic as this sounds. I think if you donât pass for the gender of one restroom and you do for another. Just use the other. I get that you are uncomfortable. Believe me I know. But the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. I have seen a lot of the pictures for the whole #plettputmehere and my heart goes out for them, but some of them wonât be an issue. But a thing that I am wondering, how hard is it in Canada to get your gender legally changed? I know in America you can go to your local courtroom and change it. And when I checked what I had to do where I lived to get it changed all I needed was $200. If that is the case in Canada, why not do that?

Itâs very important also to note that the same amendment that would make washrooms sex specific would also make crisis shelters sex-specific as well, meaning that trans women would be barred from seeking help at womenâs shelters
Trans women could potentially have no place to run to if theyâre living in abusive households. This is a really big issue and people need to be talking more about it instead of pretending that Canada is the most accepting place on earth.
I donât think Plett realised that if you force transgender men to use the womenâs bathroom, then cisgender men wonât even have to dress up in traditionally feminine clothing to fit in there (I donât know where he got the idea that people actually do this from, though?). They can just walk in as is, and everyone will just assume theyâre a transgender male.
Dense bigots are dense.
Honestly though, Iâm assuming heâs just using the âcisgender men in feminine clothing who wants to assault womenâ excuse to try and hide how transphobic he really is (not that itâs working), but I wonder if anyoneâs pointed out yet, to him, this massive flaw in his argument. Iâd like to watch his reaction.
