It’s not about deceiving straight people (like we are often told), but about the turtle’s own safety. They’ll come out when the time is right and they feel comfortable. 💕🏳️‍🌈

This is one of the most important messages, in my opinion, for LGBT+ youth. It is okay to wait until you are safe, secure, and comfortable - it is good to wait until coming out will be safe and comfortable for you. You do not owe anyone your coming out - not the people around you, not the LGBT+ community, not anyone. You are owed safety, security, and comfort. If the “be true to yourself” mantra makes you feel pressured, remember that you don’t owe anyone that. Remember that you’re allowed to put your own safety and comfort first.
