whats your favourite individual part of your practice? ie. what do you enjoy the most, or what ritual / practice have you created thats individual to you and your path?
Right now, I’m really enjoying re-exploring my practice through writing. Creating new spells for the second volume of the Grimmoire and putting together episodes for the podcast are forcing some previously-nebulous ideas to become clearer, and I’m finding some new perspectives on magical methodology along the way.
Writing has always been my calling, and I’m always happiest when I can find a way to incorporate that into my craft. Plus, I love explaining and helping other practitioners figure things out. As much as I try to get away from teaching as part of my day job, I keep coming back around to it as a witch.
Also, I THINK I may have created the term “witch webs” by accident. When I wrote Grovedaughter Witchery, I’d seen web-type weaving designs as part of aesthetic posts and witchy craft pages before, but they were always labeled as some variety of dreamcatcher (which is just not right). So when I put my description of the idea into the book, I called them Witch Webs, thinking surely someone somewhere would have thought of the term before me. But I keep getting people asking what they are, with enough frequency that I’m beginning to wonder if I’ve either created something new or just finally put a proper name and a fresh concept to a pre-existing idea.
I’m also working on the idea of portable circles for my next book - representations of sacred space in the form of physical containment figures that can be used for working magic outside of your usual space when you can’t lay down a line of chalk or salt. It hasn’t quite come together yet, but I’m very close.
What I think I’m most proud of is seeing the ideas I’ve put forth in my published work being echoed in the community. Naturally, I can’t take credit unless someone quotes or cites me directly, but I still smile whenever I see discussions being had, or my titles showing up on recommendation posts. The idea that I’ve had a positive impact, even a small one, makes me very happy.
