The Worst People in Used Bookstores

It really grinds my gears when I go to a used bookstore and can only find the second and third books in a series. So listen I am a fan of genre fiction (science fiction, fantasy, ya, horror, mystery) and I adore obscure, out of print novels that are a bit ridiculous and a ton of fun. You can see how a used bookstore is perfect for this shopping. I am not looking for anything in particular, but waiting for something to find me. More often then not, I find an amazing series I am super excited about only to realize that it’s the second book in the series. That is just disappointing. But when I see the second and the third book I am just mad. The bookstore would only buy the series if they also had the first book at some point. This means that someone went in, saw the series, and only bought the first book. No one else is going to have the first book in this series, so now the next person can buy the second one and find the first book somewhere else or the rest of the books will go unbought. It makes me furious. Of course in tiny used bookstores this involves me putting the book away while mentally screaming. Long story short, if you are buying an obscure genre book at a used bookstore and its a part of a trilogy, just buy all three. Please, for my sanity. Thanks a bundle, happy reading.

Hi everyone!

Thanks for being such amazing and loyal supporters of what I do here. I know I’ve been rubbish of late - even by my base rubbish standards. It’s that familiar combination of being very busy and being generally crap.

I have started a Facebook page of this blog (I shall update both as I go along, so fret not those who don’t like Facebook as much as Tumblr). I would really love it if you could join me over there. I’m going to be putting up some of the oldies for a while - just to get it going - and then the new material will be put up both here and over there.

I promise I’ll be getting new stuff out soon. The busier bits of life have got considerably less busy!
