Oh well, it's Singapore's National Day, so a little throwback to 'Please Mind The SG50 Gap' - http://bit.ly/1JnnM2w... SG50, a term that was used broadly as Singapore celebrated its golden jubilee on 9 August 2015. And with the SMRT (Singapore Mass Rapid Transit) offering a full day of free rides as part of the celebrations, I had the opportunity of photographing in stations as long as I could; capturing parade-goers, firework-watchers or simply anyone cladded in the national flag colours of red and white, cutting through the gaps between the train and platforms. The LORD says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. Psalm 32:8 (NLT)
Being a commuter in London is interesting. It doesn’t seem to matter how many times TFL staff make announcements urging commuters to ‘mind the gap’ and 'stand behind the yellow line’ there’s always someone who thinks they’re invincible, standing a little too close to the edge. The result- a casualty, either to themselves or another person. In hindsight they’d probably agree that edging just that bit closer wasn’t really worth it.
The yellow line is a guide, put there to keep us safe. Of course it’s our choice whether we decide to take heed of it or not, but we should know that if we do decide to go beyond it, we do so at our own risk. Sin will tell you that it won’t do any harm to overstep the mark just a little bit- but we know that if we give the devil an inch, he’ll take a mile.
The Holy Spirit and the Word of God act as our Guide to keep us safe in life- telling us when and where to mind the gap, and when to stand behind the yellow line. I don’t know what your yellow line is- maybe it’s not being in certain places, not watching certain things, or not being around certain people? Whatever it is- the Guide has put it there to keep you safe from the temptation to sin and from its consequences.
Mark 8:36 asks us 'for what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?’ Nothing. Nothing in this world is worth losing your soul over.
Temptation is all around us. Even Jesus was tempted in the desert, but He wants us to overcome, with His help. I guess the question you have to ask yourself next time you’re tempted to ignore His guidance and go beyond the yellow line, is 'is it really worth it?’.
